  • Fire plugin — burning paper?

Need a shot of a few photos (will be digital stills) catching on fire. They should look like regular pictures, and the burning should be gradual — photo turns brown in a spot which spreads, then flames catch. The angle will be from the top looking down at a slight angle.

Even better would be something that also curls the paper and distorts the photo as well.

Are there any plugins which do something like this? I checked out various fire and flame plugins but none seemed appropriate.

Forgot to mention that I saw the “Using Fractal Noise to Create Fire” tutorial, but I’m looking for something more subtle.

The shot lasts only 5-10 seconds, and will slowly zoom in to the photo while it begins to distort and burn — not necessary to see flames.

    Stylize>CC Film Burn

And the pattern of darkening to burn spots can be controlled with the Center and Random Seed properties, then just animate the Burn from 0-100 (or less) to get you blackening.

And if you animate Stylize>CC Glass (or CC Blobbylize), that will give you the bubbly look of print heating to the point of burning.

Sometimes Roughen Edges (with the Edge Type>Roughen Color) works with this setup.

Anyway Film Burn and Glass will get you toward Darkening => Bubbling => just before flaming.

You can even get a little curling with page turn, but you need to precomp the stuff above to get the curling backside showing the blackening and Roughen Color.

Back in the olden days, when CoSA took a weekend to render ten seconds of one layer, we saw this post often. Our usual response was to buy some pyrotechnic supplies from a magician supply shop, and shoot it. You can find A-B fire fluids that offer some interesting control over the course of a fire as well as colored flames, spark and flash powders. Print ten or fifteen copies of your shots and have some fun.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
