i have a client that is going to want a kaleidoscope effect done for a music video intro. i know AE has a plug in for it and i have messed around with it.

has anyone else used it effectively? and if so can i see a quicktime of what you did so i can get some ideas of what to do?

    thanks alot.

there are many kaleidoscope filters and simulators for AE. You can also use nested mirror effects for more control.

the problem is getting a feel for what the controls do and how to predict the outcome. I have only one suggestion for you: Find a still image that contains almost no duplicated subject matter. Place a 3×3 or 4×4 grid over it made out of four or six different colored lines.
    Play with the controls.
This can take several hours of goofing around. You want to be able to deliver when your client makes a request.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

Pete’s plugins (Free) has a more powerful Kaleidascope than AE’s CC Kaleida (under Stylize):

The point is that whatever segment of the image you see, you’ll know what part it is.
