Make sure that disk is formatted OSX journaled.
If the disk is empty you can format it using disk utilities in the osx utilities folder.

How long is the timeline?
Can it be broken up into 20 minute reels?
The bigger the timeline the more Media objects you are asking FCP X to track, hence MORE RAM needed.
The upgrade to 10.05 is also a good idea.

You are right. This is much smarter and faster and much more what I would expect from FCPX xml files.
I think I have been so beaten down at doing workarounds theis past year that I forget to check if there is an elegant solution that works with FCP X and yours works perfectly.
I could have saved a bunch of time using this very professional and efficient tool.

SOLUTION:
Copy all of the text from the FCP X Timeline.
create a new project
paste it into the new project and set the first title to match the TC from where you pasted.
Export FCP X XML
Convert in FCP X to 7
Open in FCP 7
Surprisingly all of the text is there as well. Cool!

I prefer FCP X
One year in (I posted a film edited with it just two days after downloading) I can say I feel it’s getting better and it is one of the best NLE’s ive ever used.
Downsides:
Still no OMF support or logical interface with APPLE LOGIC (why?) to mix audio.
FCP X assumes you will finish everything in the NLE (but resolve support is really nice)
No Red support? Soon I hope.besides those three things I think the bold move was smart and that the software is excellent.

Great.
I have tried that and it works. Makes life so much simpler.
Have to say that this title tool is among the best I have seen in an NLE.
Way to go FCP x (again)
But, I should add the text has to be selected in the INFO window if you are replacing things or adding drop shadows.

Use command ALT I to import.
Command I is set as a default to the isight camera, it’s teh very first keystroke I remapped.
HEY APPLE, that might have been an iMove default, but a PRO default is to import a FILE with COMMAND I

I don’t think you can change this.
Perhaps the best way to accomplish this is with compressor. Maybe that is where you could change the usd name as well.
