My office partner, Byron may have solved this provlem today. I had the exact same problems described in the above posts. I tried several options and then Byron took over.
THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE RELATED DIRECTLY TO THE *EMBEDED COLOR PROFILE* OF THE SPECIFIC FILE. IT SEEMS THAT IF THERE IS NOT A COLOR PROFILE ATTACHED TO THE FILE OR IF IT IS CMYK YOU COULD BE INTROUBLE. TRY TO RESAVE THE FILES AS TIFFS WITH AND EMBEDDED COLOR PROFILE SELECTED.

Is there daughtercard processing on this card? Can you select the Declink HD to do the FX from within the final Cut Ro effects handling pane? I just don’t see where the cards “extra” processing power is coming from.

The card has nothing to do with this. It all depends on your drive speed, computer and RAM.

Drop your edited sequence into a 720×480 timeline and render that. This way you will loose the six lines you need to loose before the encode and then if it plays back fine as a 720×480 sequence then it sound look fine as an mpeg.
I am not sure that premiere pro has this capability but I am sure you can adjust you tmeline fram size.

The KONA 2 card lets you select this with a great little piece of software that ships with their HD product. it controls up and down converts and lets you select video frame sizes and standards all from within a nice little package.

Currently there aren;t really any cards that actually add hardware capabilities to Final Cut Pro. Some older cards did this by adding specific FX to a daughtercard, but Apple stopped supporting that with version 4 and the RT engine. RT extreme is a Mac Preocessor based function and the amount of real time you get is purely dependant on the speed of your Mac computer and actually, the speed of your drives. For example: if you have an xserve raid you can expect far more RT, than if you have a firewire drive.
When you launch FCP, you might notice that there is a portion that says (profiling for RT extreme) that is FCP determining what It can do with your RAM, CPU and Drives.
NEWS FLASH. The cards are only the through port, they add nothing to the RT capabilities of your system. The card is just the Piepline, that’s it.
