October 6, 2011 at 1:24 am in reply to: how do i stop Resolve conforming newly added clips all over my projectCould the offline clip be having similar name to those that are already in the media pool and Resolve thinks you are adding an alternative clip ?
Perhaps you could name it completely different and see if it still does the same ?

Try delete the config file for the scopes window and see if it helps.
The WFM.cfg file is located here :
/Library/Preferences/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve

EDL/XML will conform to the media that you have imported into the media pool. If it can’t find the clip, you’ll see a red X across the thumbnail of the clip when you go into the Color Page.
I believe there is a feature in the Conform Page that you can tell Resolve to conform to a specific folder, so if yo have a new set of VFX files you can re-conform to that folder. I’ve not tried it personally but have read that you can do this so it may be useful for you.

Check that you are indeed running FCP7 when you are importing the XML exported from Resolve.

Probably best to create different folders for the different VFX shots in the Media Pool. Easier to identify them that way.

You can try split the 90mins clip into 3 parts into different projects and render them from there.
What you can do is save as a different project name and then split the timeline in the conform page, so project A is first 30mins, project B is 30mins and project C is 30mins. After rendering them out you can import them back into a new project and assemble into a single 90mins timeline for playback.

August 14, 2011 at 8:54 am in reply to: Strategies for grading a 2.5 hour feature film in Resolve? That is correct…split the film into 20mins projects (projects, not sessions) or you will run into Out of Memory error as the media pool will be too much to handle.
Once you have finished grading and renderered them out, you can import the final graded files into a new project so that you can watch the entire movie from start to finish.

Do you already have the subtitles prepared for you ? Is it white text on black background ?
If you’re using Resolve v8, you can create a new video track (v2), add the subtitle to the new v2 track and then set the Composite Mode of v2 track to Add and this will “superimpose” the subtitles over to your graded v1 track.
You may want to import the audio track just to check if the subtitles are in sync.
