Why don’t you use the ATI card for the GUI monitor and the Quadro4000 as the GPU card for Resolve ? This way both Resolve and Motion will benefit from the respective cards.

Unless the ATI card uses both the 6-pin power connectors on the motherboard, which I doubt.

  • That is correct. There are only two 6-pin power connectors on the motherboard which is only enough to power 1 x ATI 5770 and 1 x Quadro4000 cards. You won’t be able to put 2 x Quadro4000 cards in the Mac Pro…for that you will need an external PCIe expansion chassis like the Cubix Desktop 2 or Desktop 4.

    Hi Jan,

Resolve will automatically use the Quadro4000 for the GPU processing, provided you don’t connect any monitors to it. If you need dual GUI monitor setup, connect both to the Geforce 8800GT card instead.

To confirm how many GPU is running, once you are in Resolve, go to the Apple menu and select About DaVinci Resolve and the splash screen will tell you that.

Your setup will be good for Adobe CS5 PR and AE.

    Hi Jan,

The Geforce 8800GT is not officially supported for DaVinci Resolve but I do believe some users have successfully used it as the GUI display card and this is where you connect your computer monitor. This card will be installed in the default slot 1 in the Mac Pro.

The Quadro4000 will be the GPU card for DaVinci Resolve’s real time image processing and this card will go into slot 2 and you do not connect any monitor to this card.

For video output, you will need the Blackmagic Design Decklink HD Extreme 3D+ card and you will need a video monitor to connect the SDI output from this card for the fullscreen video display. There are many options in this area depending on the display size and how much you want to spend. The Decklink card goes into slot 3.

Slot 4 is where your storage controller card goes in.

    Hope this helps.

That is correct..the GU monitor needs to be 1920 x 1080 or higher.

For the video monitor, it would ideally display 1920 x 1080 natively but if it’s a smaller size monitor that don’t support 1920 x 1080 video resolution, it will still work as the monitor will do the scaling.

  • The best way to confirm is to download and install on it. That you’ll know for sure if it works or not.

If it doesn’t, you can just uninstall the app.

You can use the up and down arrow key on your keyboard to toggle before/after grade.

I think the most important thing is not to make Resolve run like Color. It is not Color and you’ll just make yourself frustrated if you try to use it the way it is not designed to be. There are now quite a number of video tutorials on Resolve and in particular Alexis Van Hurkman’s website where he shares alot of good info on the node structure in Resolve. Check it out : https://vanhurkman.com/wordpress/?cat=10

Rona…it would be great if you can elaborate more about how the curves should be improved. The development team monitor this forum closely and they do take in suggestions so if you can share it would be great since lately there has been a number of calls for better curves and others are wondering in what ways they should be improved.

Anything can be improved but if there are no details, it’s hard to move forward.

    Make sense ?

Why don’t you try install the GT120 in slot 2 in the Mac Pro and connect the GUI monitor to the GT120.

Resolve v8 may not like the two graphics card in separate locations.
