July 25, 2011 at 1:37 pmI’m not sure but I seem to remember that you won’t have enough power leeds and that you might overload the power supply if you try to branch them off and split them. I could be wrong but I think that is the main issue.

July 25, 2011 at 2:08 pmThat is correct. There are only two 6-pin power connectors on the motherboard which is only enough to power 1 x ATI 5770 and 1 x Quadro4000 cards. You won’t be able to put 2 x Quadro4000 cards in the Mac Pro…for that you will need an external PCIe expansion chassis like the Cubix Desktop 2 or Desktop 4.

July 25, 2011 at 2:51 pmY-cable is worth a try, but better is to use a simple GT120
A slice of color…
DaVinci 8.0.1b3 OSX 10.6.8
MacPro 5.1 2×2,4 24GB
RAID0 8TB eSata 6TB
GTX 285 / GT 120
Extreme 3D+ WAVE -

July 25, 2011 at 3:27 pmSo when a GT120 is used for the GUI, it should work.
It’s just that this configuration ( GT120, FX4000, FX4000 , Extreme 3D ) is not listed in the Resolve Config Guide.

July 25, 2011 at 3:55 pmIs this true?
Im running v8.01 on a MP 12core with Quadro 4000 as GUI and REDRocket.
With R3D files Im getting 24fps on play back, of course on one extra node since I just started learning. -

July 25, 2011 at 4:01 pmJust to add that with my current config of Quadro 4000 as GUI, it does state in Resolve 8 that I have 1 GPU.
So does it work? -

July 25, 2011 at 5:54 pmKeep in mind Slots 3 & 4 are PCIe x4 electrical only. Even if you get a 16-channel card like Quadro 4000 running in either of these slots, they won’t receive full PCIe x16 bandwidth. This would apply to RED Rocket (PCIe x8) or ATTO’s dual or quad channel HBAs (both have PCIe x8 connections to the backplane).
