I use MC adrenaline with dnx upgrade. Works good except when I bring a program from stage tools over from a mac. Also, the titles are buggy sometimes. There were some memory issues. They claim to have fixed them with the latest release and I haven’t heard anything lately.
Unless your doing HDCAM or above it seems to me like you’re better off getting the MC with mojo sdi. “only” $ 7000. Doesn’t include scope and HD monitor of course.

Hi,
Last I heard there was not Mac version of the dnxHD codec so it looks like your stuck using Animation or TARGA.
I have to say here that this is very lame of Avid. It makes my life harder just cause they don’t get along with Mac. Why do the little people always suffer?!

Hi Jeremy,
My system is OS 10.2.8 and Mpeg 4 plays on that. Thats pretty old these days so most people will see it.
H.264 is (I believe) some subset of mpeg 4 BUT you must have QT 7 to view it. In order to have QT 7 you need OS 10.3.9 or better. I believe that windows XP is OK with QT 7.
You probably know this but the AAC refers to the Audio. Perhaps this is the cause of the larger file size.
Hope that provides some insight is 100 % accurate.

Hi,
I’m not sure about Tascam but we have a Sony PCM 800 that accept 8 channels of AES/EBU. Our main limitation is our systems which can only output 4 channels at a time. We get around this by recording in two passes.
We do digital cut on an Avid to output the tapes. I can’t imagine that FCP doesn’t have the same capabiliy. I guess you’ll want to find out for sure. We simply connect device control and let it rip.
If your doing a lot of shows you will save a lot of money in the end. I would recomend taking an extra day of rental to figure out the machine before doing the first layoff.
With the Sony (I think Tascam is the same) the thing to remember is that if you don’t have preformatted tapes you must format and stripe them ahead of time. The instruction manual will give you the details but remember that you must press ‘format’ not once but twice (if its blinking thats no good).
And since you have 12 tracks of audio and Da-88 takes 8 tracks you’re going to have a problem there.
Hoped that helped some.

Probably won’t help but Boris CC has a damaged film filter.

Hi.
I Don’t have any recomendations on books but wanted to let you know that besides having higher resolution HD has a square aspect ratio, is upperfield first, black is defined as 0 no 7.5. There some other issues that will definitely come back to bite you if you don’t know what they are so researching those diferences are important.
Didn’t want you misled by an earlier post.

Hi,
Digital Anarchy (digitalanarchy.com) makes a lossless codec called microcosm codec that is suposedly much (3x?) smaller than Animation and is lossless.
I can’t vouch for this but there you have it.

You’ve gotten a lof of good advice but thought I’d add my perspective.
I’m an AE about to start onlining (that’s the promise anyway). I supervise all the loggers and dig’ers and while we have a lot of people knocking on our door VERY few of them show any initiative once they’re in. I see them dig’ing material and checking there email. I’m not impressed and I tell the sup’ as much. They go nowhere and will have a job in a mailroom somewhere soon.
I’m definately seen as the tech guy but it hasn’t hurt me at all. I’ve saved shows that had to be out by fedex and producers remember that kind of thing.
I personally thing that at some point you’re a professional and shouldn’t work for free. Even if it’s $ 8 an hour. You deserve to make something for you skills and if you don’t value your work who will.
Anyways, add that to the pile.

Hi,
Avid’s not so good for audio finishing (that’s why avid owns protools). outside of EQ and a handfull of basic effects such as gain and reverb you don’t have alot.
If you do get someone pro to help with the audio, ask them wether OMF 1 or 2 is ok. I’ve had problems delivering OMF 2 to protools users and OMF 1 works everytime.
Hopefully someone will have more info for you.
