Not the elegant solution I wanted but a solution none the less.

    Thanks Mark.

In a pinch you could transcode the sequence. Might want to let it go overnight.

Before you try that, have you gone under either “media creation” or “capture” and checked to see that “filter based on resolution” is turned off. If you’re capturing to your main drive and “filter out start up disk is” checked you won’t dig to the c drive.

Our problem is that we purchased v1. for our meridien offline systems and as business has grown our 2 dongle licenses have turned out to not be enough to go around. The cost of upgrading all these rooms to something else is prohibitive. Cheaper to buy one or two new licenses but the price is really just rediculous.

Am I the only one who thinks this? Perhaps my memory is faulty but I seem to remember v1 costing something like $ 800 and now v2 (you can’t get version 1 anymore) is $ 3200 (2800 w/”returning customer” discount. Anyway. I’m done complaining now.

    Avid. Por que?

  • Mojo SDI is good and your only option.

I buy only G-tech (no more LaCie).

I don’t know about the other particle generators you mentioned but I love particular. It does everything. Of particular (get it?) interest is the ability to use a light as the emitter. I think particular only cost somewhere around 200 and the possibilities are endless.

  • Odd. I’m doing exactly the same thing right now except I’m trying to recreate a peice of steel being cut with a welding torch. For the sparks from the torch I’m using the Weld_gold preset in Trapcode’s Particular. I’ve set the floor layer to be my metal (created in photoshop w/noise and motion blur). The sparks jump and bounce off of the metal and it looks pretty cool. By using a point light as the emitter I have greater control and after wiggling the intesity I get a pretty passable welding light (could work for your laser effect). Particular costs money but for everything it can do it is well worth the small cost.

I thought about using the write on effect (or 3d stroke) for the cut in the metal. Ahron has a signature tutorial that I think could be used to acheive this effect.
