Like Harm said AVI is a generic term. Usually the type of AVI that causes problems like you describe is Divx with MP3 audio.

Visit the BHphotovideo.com web site occasionally, they carry alot of Motu products

  • Have you checked your memory? Sometimes there can be memory errors that aren’t caught in the bios check, it could be forcing you to virtual memory which is very slow.

[Nathan Tinsley] ” seem to recall that, while monitoring your video on a television through a DV camcorder, there is a lag of sorts. So if you’re watching playback this way and hit the MARK IN button you end up with an in point that’s late.”

The idea of the DV passthrough is for Previewing the video in its native form, checking things like composition and color correction, cutting or setting points should be done with the in-program monitors, delays can run from nil to a bunch of frames depending on machine horsepower and whats doing the conversion.

[HuzzPorter] “PAL DV Widescreen ( (1.4) or something).
I know different media players will treat it differently, but if it is a 720×576 image, isn’t that just 4:3?”

No its not 4:3 its an anamorphic screen aspect ratio, widescreen and normal have the same pixel count, its the virtual pixel size(1.x) that makes it either wide or normal, if put on a dvd most late model dvd player will detect the widescreen tv or lack of, and playback either widescreen or letterboxed 4:3

Have you tried to re-create the Plug-in Cache File? If not, hold down the shift key when you start Ppro and hold it till the Project screen appears.

Divx is becoming a alternate for HD delivery on DVD, there are some up-converting DVD players supporting it now.

CS2 and up contains Photomerge which does Panoramas, or Photoshop Elements will do them, its best to select frames that slightly overlap to merge

    Two questions:
    1. do you have the tryout version?
    2. is the avi you are trying to import divx or a similar format?
