I am considering the upgrade from a hardware based Matrox RTX100 Extreme Pro with Adobe Video Collection 1.5 to CS3 and no hardware other than fire wire. I seem to recall that, while monitoring your video on a television through a DV camcorder, there is a lag of sorts. So if you’re watching playback this way and hit the MARK IN button you end up with an in point that’s late. Scrubbing is fine but playback seems to be the issue. Has this lag been solved at all either in software or hardware updates? Are all firewire cards created equal? Is the onboard firewire reliable? Thanks.

The idea of the DV passthrough is for Previewing the video in its native form, checking things like composition and color correction, cutting or setting points should be done with the in-program monitors, delays can run from nil to a bunch of frames depending on machine horsepower and whats doing the conversion.
