use the time remapping tool right (ctrl) click and choose smooth. smooth it to stop where you want make a freeze of the last frame then use the freeze to do all your moves. it takes patience and time… but easily done.

tom, you have very good machines. they are not obsolete… they just aren’t the fastest on the market. adn until the new ones are shipping you still have the fastest available. i thought i would never say this but apple has been too quick to pull the trigger on releasing newer products. the development of the ipod line is disgusting. in less than a year they have gone from 3rd gen ipods to click wheel to color/photo to now video, the mini is obsolete to the nano… now they dis the dual 2.5 for the “new” dual 2.7 and less than 6 months the dual 2.7 is shadowed by Quad 2.5…. why not a quad 2.7…..that will come out for xmas. and still no significant powerbook updates….. some of us would like to run motion in the field without sipping two cups of coffee while waiting for a preview. big deal they spiced up the display…… and in two years they have gone from 1.25 to 1.67 processors. but i guess they justify it by putting in the dl superdrive…..

i guess if you look at the positive light you can take a justifiable loss on the depretiation of your gear this year.

are your clips 4 half hour clips ormultiple shorter clips?

to answer your first question you can play back the base layer unrendered by maing the following selection im the
SYSTEM SETTINGS click on the Playback control Tab and check the Play Base Layer Only (if render needed) box. This will allow what ever is on your base layer to play, but with out any filters or compositing effects.

How fast is your g4 laptop, powerbook, ibook, it helps everyone if you are more detailed.

have you tried creating a bin with the used material and with those clip offline you should be able to into clip settings and adjust accordingly. its a long and tedious process. in previous versions form 5 you could do it at the bin level. Just curious though, audio doesn’t take up all that much room. So why the need to dump it?

personally, i would stick with photoshop. creat a template tha tis 720 or whatever width you need and how ever long then just use a simple motion keyframes to mov eit. i do alot of FCC announcments (not by choice) and the title tool/boris takes much longer to render. just save the psd out as a pict or tiff with the alpha and your good to go. fcp5 renders the motion on the text very well. the title tool allows you to make changes faster but much longer renders.

i am not sure if this is the answer your looking for but, if the file/files are in an open project in that bin ctrl-click on the item and choose item properties under the format tab you will see a source lien that will direct you to the file.
