it should be pretty much seemless unless your switching formats dv/sd/hd….. and so forth. AE sees the codecs installed on the machine so if it was installed on your laptop it would see all the FCP codecs and you could output direct with no rendering. thats not to say the windows machine can’t spit out a usable quicktime.

first, you shuld share these great free plugins……. just kidding
are you using FCP 5? Where are you putting them? Did you just drag them into the folder or do they have an installer? I would check those things first. chances are its not the plugins but where or how they were put into the plugins folder.just press apple-z

reliability…………..
I was once and *edit-or like yourself. I took a positiong as a preditor at a network and was using *edit 6. after numerous issues with drives and the death of *edit I decided to give FCP a try. One week of using it i went home sold every pc at home which ran my freelance buisness using premiere. bought an iMac for the wife and a 15″ powerbook. I could not have been happier with the “switch” as they call it. There are plenty of solutions for you. The fact your asking about laptops leads me to think portability is the main issue. Ingesting FW and using an external drive is simple. purcahse a fw400 cardbus for your pci slot and run your fw800 drive off the built in port. works like a charm. you can dirty-foot it and use them both off the built in port, some will say its a no-no but in a pinch i have never had issues with it. As Walter led to it comes down to what YOU really want. if you have any more questions i would be happy to help you.just press apple-z

Oliver: thanks for the input, i would assume they tell you it is not recommended, not becuase it doesn’t work but it “may” have issues. I have gone ahead and been batching abounch of tapes and so far no problem.
Alexander: I am still a little confused why i should get a 800 card buss over a 400. i only need one 800 port and it is built in…. i could use the 400 cardbus for my deck and tada they are on seperate buss’ and everyhting is happy …right?

Ed thanks for the link. My question was more towards why spend the extra dough on a 800 cardbus when you can get a 400 much cheaper and use the built in 800 port for my drive. Barefeats has some good reviews and very helpful tests.

i had the same problem and it seems to be a very common bug. i found that placing the cursor then hiting right arrow key it atleast allows you to keep most of your selection instead of deleitng it all. maybe in 5.03 it will be resolved
