Found this over on the soundtrack forum…..
In FCP5 File/Send To/Soundtrack Pro Audio File Project. In Soundtrack Pro highlight a portion of the sound that has no other sound than the ofending hum then Process/Set Noise Print, then Process/ Reduce Noise. Click the checkbox for noise only & move the slider to the left till the voice dissapears. Click Apply then save & return to FCP.

I have still yet to mess around with it but they demoed this in soundtrack pro….. cleaned it right up. I am sure someone will chime in wiht the exact method. keep fiddling with the hum remover, often you will learn a new method.

Chris,
What a novel idea. I never thought of actually capturing on the G5. I had it in my mind I would batch log all the tapes then at home just let them capture while I was engulfed in an episode of big brother or watching a nascar race. Anyway I can still batch log them at home and each day while I am in production meetings or out to lunch or in audio sessions I can let the big dog do all the work. Now if I do my research will I find that the front fw400 port is on a seperate bus from the fw800 in the back of the machine? I have considered a nice lite portable drive, but i have budgeted in on this one project to drop the coin to get a nice reliable larger capacity drive. From now on i will consider all these options…… who knows i might become a freelance junkie.

thanks for the input so far….
as far as not using an external monitor i am trying to limit the stuff i carry around. this project is going to be done off hours from my already strenous work schedule. i need a set up that i can pull out and use quickly to give myself more “work time” i can set up in the coffee shop with a couple outlets cut for an hour then go to work. I should have specified i will not always be using an external monitor.so i guess the pcibus card is a diven and teh g-raid is a more stable product. so looks like my decision is made up. no any recomended dealers. I mostly use macmall becuase our company has an account there but this is personal so any other recomndations would be superb.
remember its labor day weekend ……have fun

oxyde i maybe mistaken but running a fw800 drive and your deck off the fw400 at the sametime slows the system down quite a bit since the fw800 and fw400 share the same bus therefore the fw800 actually drops to fw400. you should invest in a pci/fw card. this seperates the devices allowing the drive to utilize fw 800.

I have a 15″ and the only reason I would get the 17 is for a couple reasons. 1: the latch system is much better with 2 clasps instead of one. 2: 20 more gigs The Production Suite will hog up alot of your alooted 74.whatever gb’s. Don’t get me wrong the 17 is too big to lug around most of the time. For the meantime my 15 will do just fine. Max out your 2gb of ram and your good to go. Buy a good bag for it! keep it off your lap if you ever wan to have kids. People look at me funny and my co-workers give me doo-doo for it but I have ausb fan that works wonder in keeping chernobyl cooled down.
