It zooms in directly on whatever you have selected. It zooms on the playhead if you have nothing selected. Get used to hitting cmd+d for deselect before you zoom if you want it to go to the playhead. And you’ll need to set that key up yourself. For some annoying as heck reason apple removed the cmd+d command with version 4.x and replaced it with nothing. If you’re new to FCP you might know it as shift+cmd+z. Yeah apple, that makes so much more logical sense.

I didn’t re-programm many keys, but that was one I just had to do. I used the customized keyboard to put the cmd+d deselect back. I think that at Apple they only ever expect people to use the mouse, and they are surprised when they find out that some users actually like the keyboard.

One other custom change is that I moved the Link/Un-link toggle to the letter c. I never crop anything, but I link and unlink constantly, and “shift+l” is just to hard to do with my left hand (right hand has to be stuck on the mouse).

Anyone else have any custom changes they found helpful? Or I guess hat should be in its own thread, eh?

Replace the mouse with a tablet. been using one for 8 years and the tablet is just must faster and easier to use than a mouse. Also makes it easier to reach for the keyboard with your right hand for some shortcuts. I also load up a lot of shortcuts using the buttons in the screens.

Shift+Cmd+A is the default deselect in FCP 5.0 (sort of the modifier of Cmd+A for Select All).
