Opening 4.1 Project in 5
i am trying to open a project file saved from a while back on the new system. FCP 5 will not even recognize the old project file. File Error: wrong Type…..any ideas. I can export it out on an old system as an xml…. but there should be an easier way.

okay as much as i hate to admit this… it is a total timmayyy (from south park) tuesday. all i had to do was add the .fcp extension. for some reason all of my old files did’nt have the extension….

Extension? Final cut project files don’t use extensions. They don’t even have the option to show/hide the extension. I’ve never seen nor used an extension for final cut, but I’m glad you got your project open.

actually, yes they do. With FCP 5.0 you’ll see the extension show up as .fcp when you save a file. I’ve not had to add an extension to a 4.0 project, but apparently some folks will have to add it to make sure they open.
