October 20, 2005 at 4:59 pmIt says3-4 weeks delivery right now. I don’t believe it will be readily available until December. Time to start saving. I can’t wait to see benchmaks that aren’t from Apple marketing.
At least the dual-core 2.0 and 2.3 have shipped quickly.

October 20, 2005 at 7:18 pmThe new G5’s…
Part of me wants to say “Wow! Too cool”
However, another part of me (the part on my backside nearest where I carry my wallet & checkbook) wants to say “Oh, that’s just great…”I’d be looking at the new machines from a different perspective if it weren’t for the fact that just I replaced all the old G4’s less than 6 months ago. And those G5’s were the newest, just on the market machines.
This just isn’t right…things shouldn’t go obsolete in less than 6 months.

October 20, 2005 at 7:46 pmtom, you have very good machines. they are not obsolete… they just aren’t the fastest on the market. adn until the new ones are shipping you still have the fastest available. i thought i would never say this but apple has been too quick to pull the trigger on releasing newer products. the development of the ipod line is disgusting. in less than a year they have gone from 3rd gen ipods to click wheel to color/photo to now video, the mini is obsolete to the nano… now they dis the dual 2.5 for the “new” dual 2.7 and less than 6 months the dual 2.7 is shadowed by Quad 2.5…. why not a quad 2.7…..that will come out for xmas. and still no significant powerbook updates….. some of us would like to run motion in the field without sipping two cups of coffee while waiting for a preview. big deal they spiced up the display…… and in two years they have gone from 1.25 to 1.67 processors. but i guess they justify it by putting in the dl superdrive…..
i guess if you look at the positive light you can take a justifiable loss on the depretiation of your gear this year.

October 20, 2005 at 8:02 pmI need to agree with Bill. Doesn’t mean your computers is crap or you need to upgrade everytime they launch a new version. Myself, I bought my Powerbook G4 in February and they have upgrade the line of powerbook 2 times since then. And I will tell you that I’m still satisfied with my computer and it does well what I need of her. (That is a good question, do you refer to your computer as a he or she?!… lol another time). When I will need more because of my contracts, then I will buy a new computer and my wallet will not freak out because money goes in before it goes out.
Have a nice editing!

October 20, 2005 at 9:52 pmI agree and don’t get me wrong. The new machines are running well and everyone seems to be happy. I’m still running a 1.25DP and FCP 4.5 in one room and it’s booked most of the time. In most cases, it still comes down to the editors. If they imagine it and they want it, they’ll just wait a bit longer for it.
It’s just the principal of it, that’s all.

October 21, 2005 at 4:51 amKeep in mind, the 2 smaller models (2ghz and 2.3 ghz) are a single dual core processor. They can’t be much different that the duals we have now. The way I read it there is only one quad (2.5ghz) which is the one used in all the performance graphs. When the G5’s came out there was 1.6 single and 1.8 single and the duals came later.
Eventually the 2 smaller machines will become quads too and we will get a 2.7 dual dual core.I recently made $800.00 on my G3/400 fcp2 machine which was all that was needed to do a simple long form job. It was the only place I had room and the hard drives at the time. Everyones been telling me to get rid of it but why sell it for a couple hundred when it can pull in money like that once in a while. They’ll always do the jobs we bought them for in the 1st place.
