OK. I KNOW I have seen this on the COW, and even used it at least once, but my search does not reveal the answer… Whats the trick to revealing in the browser the actual HD location of the file? I’ve got a few files that ended up in the wrong project file, and I’d like to find ’em.

    Thanks,

I am sorry to tell you John but these files are now invisible and will require hiring a HD private investigator to find the files for you.

Please call the following HD PI’s

    1-800-Files-be- Found

    877-Files-Are-US

    Ok just kidding

Right click on the file in the browser and select item properties which will have a column telling you where the clips is on the HD. Then you can either import then to the right project or use the finder to move them to the right project folder.

Or. just use the standard Mac “Find” function.

Click on the desktop, hit “Apple F”, type in the first few letters of the file’s name, and hit “enter”.

Unlike Avid files, FCP files have the same name in the Capture Scratch folder as in the Browser.

If you are in the process of logging and capturing, you can also go to to the “capture settings” tab and click on “Scratch Disks.” That will show you where you video, audio and even render files are going.

i am not sure if this is the answer your looking for but, if the file/files are in an open project in that bin ctrl-click on the item and choose item properties under the format tab you will see a source lien that will direct you to the file.

easiest way is to open the “source” column in the browser.

    shows you the path.

getting there is manual in FCP4, but can be done now from within the app in FCP5.

got mine mapped to Shift R (for “reveal”, like in iTunes)

    cheers,
    nick
