Pete, I undertand your frustration as do most of the previous posters. But, I figured I would throw in my 2 cents. you stated you really wanted a laptop for portability. Where are you taking your iMac? Yeah they sell those silly little sleeves but is it truly portable no. So by purchasing the iMac did you really fulfill the void you were looking to? No. the MacBook Pro is not too far from it beign a viable tool in our industry but it is not there yet. By time it is your iMac will have been replaced by a new iMac…. oh wait it already has. have your beef over the new iMac not the new MacBook Pro. Then I will agree with calling people names.

This is called a Mix Minus… very common in the post world. If i were in your shoes and this is being totally mixed in FCP I would do duplicate the sequence create a mixdown lay it of stereo to 1 and 2 then in your duplicate delete your vo tracks do another mixdown and insert the audio on 3 and 4. The other approach is to export an omf to protools do your mixdown there and lay to tape from protools. good luck

As Shane mentioned you cannot go any bigger without the image falling apart on you. Even if you exprt teh freeze out to PS or another imaging program. there are plugins to try and save some of the pixel info but it is guessing on what to fill in when you go over 100%.

I call this the ballon test….

if you draw on a deflated balloon and blow it up what happens to the image……it looks like a mess but if you blow up the balloon firs tthen draw on it and defalte it the picture usually looks great. that beign said in any imaging software the original size is as big as you would want to go.

Yes we all fudge a little when we have to…. a boom mic is barely in the shot or to move it a little but i would say anyhting more than 10% it is a goner.

Depending on how you mixed it on your timeline it may be an easy task or it could be a nightmare. I know it is not much of an answer but it is the best I can do with the information provided.

exactly….. why not fw800? why not 8x dual layer? why not 17″ (even though I prefer the 15″) sounds great but a few questions need to be answered before putting the old one up on the old auction site. I do love the magnetic power supply connection. some thought ful engineering went into that. hopefully they fixed the clasp issue and bulked up the frame around the disc slot. I can say the wifes old imac is going to be updated soon….. but that has nothing to do with this forum.

Matt thanks again for the post.

Walter thanks for the information. I had a feeling you would chime in and help me out on this one. Looks like I need to make a serious investment if I intend on taking on this project.

I have found that make sure your tape is ion the deck and it is in local before launching ETT. We recently updated from a dp1.25 to a dp2.5 and simply configured the system off site brought it in removed the old box slid the new one in and it worked flawlessly. Frame accurate every time. We produce promos that rarely ever run past: 30 so I cannot say if it hold true for any long format layoff but for 20-30 layoffs a day she purrs. And as previously mentioned treat it like a child. A very temperamental child.
