New LapTop
Posted by Pete on January 11, 2006 at 2:07 amI just can NOT believe this, I am Hopping Mad!!! I bought the Photo iPod and 3 months later they come out with the Video iPod. And no offer to trade in or upgrade.
I’ve waited , been patient for 4 years, in hopes of a better, faster laptop for portable video editing. Last week I broke down and got a 20″ iMac, thinking they’d never fulfill my requests for a better Laptop….Now this!!
Sheeeshus!!! If wasn’t invested totally in Mac/Apple for my business I would dump the whole load in front of my Apple Store!!! The G4 Dual 800, the G5 Dual 2.0, $8000 in Apple software, All the harddrives I’ve bought from them…S. Jobs

January 11, 2006 at 2:12 amSettle down….take a deep breath…hold it…let it out. Take another…
Computers get upgraded all the time. You are out dated every 6 months. It is always wise to wait until AFTER macworld expos and NAB before getting anything. Pay attention to the rumors, as most of them have substance.
I bought my G4 1.25Ghz 1 month before the G5s came out. Was I mad? No…my G4 worked fine…did what I needed it to do. I bought a Dual 2 Ghz G5 6 weeks before the Quads came out…am I mad…no, my computer does what I need it to do, and it does it well. People who bought the Quad G5s…they will be outdated very soon with the Intel G5s when they appear.
Never try to keep up with the Joneses…you’ll lose every time.
Does the iMac do what you need it to do?

January 11, 2006 at 2:24 amYeah it sucks! I just bought a new car and then wouldn’t you know it, they just announced this years model. I just wish they would stick with the same old models and never introduce anything new ’cause then I could continue to get frustrated with my old hardware ’cause it doesn’t run the new software very well any more

January 11, 2006 at 2:27 amIts not a LapTop, not as portable…. Point is they are making many Apple investors/supporters mad. Just read the Apple site posts. Either mark down the versions that are about to be replaced so that people that buy them days before the release of the new versions AT Least get a great buy.
Or give us the option to replace or upgrade at a fair price. What would it hurt? It would do nothing but show Apples commitment to its supporters. They have left me a bitter, bitter consumer, but what the heck I am sure word of mouth about how they treat us wont bug them in the least.
Thanks for you try at calming me down:) -

January 11, 2006 at 2:29 amYeah, smartass, at least GM & Ford lets you know a year in advance that the new models will be coming out.

January 11, 2006 at 2:34 amYeah, that is true…Apple’s secrecy about WHAT models might be coming out is a pain. I just come to expect it.

January 11, 2006 at 2:41 amO come on we’ve been asking, speculating wishing, for something like this for YEARS, regarding Laptops and they have been saying No nothing in the foreseable future. The day I spent my $ on the iMac I asked the Apple Store Mgr. “any chance of a better laptop being unvieled by Jobs next month”. “No, definitlet not, I’d know if there was even a hint”, that was his reply.
Sorry guys, but obviusly you dont operate your own business, or you’d understand the frustration. -

January 11, 2006 at 3:01 amMy sympathies. Could you try to get your Apple Store to take back your recent purchase? I bought a couple of Dell LCD monitors a couple weeks before a major price drop, and they refunded the difference.
I think with computer hardware and software you have to adopt a “rental” attitude: here is what I am paying for X months of use of this product.
The bigger mistake than buying something about-to-be-superseded is always waiting for the next big thing. If you do that, you’ll never buy and never get the use of the present big thing.
But it still stinks.

January 11, 2006 at 3:02 amAs stated Apple is regularly updating it’s hardware – that’s why you should do the work and research and see what possibly might be arund teh corner before investing.
Now this aint hard – it’s a simple as clicking on one of the ‘macrumors’ sites and having a read.
The switch to Intel was promised a while ago and the possibility of the Powerbooks being updated has been talked about extensively – I’m not sure how anyone could be surprised or shocked at what has happened with Apples updates.
Yes I own my own small business, every dollar is important and I’ve been hanging out for a decent upgrade to the powerbooks. I was tempted by the last revision a few months back, but knew that i could hang out till January incase of something better being launched – enter Macbooks. This decision to wait was heavily based by what I was reading on these rumor sites and it’s paid off.
Having said that and being keen to pruchase, I might still wait till March to see how FCP runs on them and in case there are any quick revisions.
