1.- is there a way i can play back unrendered clips (is there something like the green dot in avid xpress?), do i really have to render everytime i change my title?
2.- why do certain clips in the timeline suddenly get grey and do not play back? they are still in the timeline. how can i change that? i did overcut everything, took forever, i am sure there must be a way. a reason.
    THANK YOU!

You’re going to have to at least post a couple specs before anyone can answer. For all we know you’re using an imac G3 with FCP 1.0.

Specifically, the OS & FCP version, what system, and what video format.

are your clips 4 half hour clips ormultiple shorter clips?

to answer your first question you can play back the base layer unrendered by maing the following selection im the
SYSTEM SETTINGS click on the Playback control Tab and check the Play Base Layer Only (if render needed) box. This will allow what ever is on your base layer to play, but with out any filters or compositing effects.

How fast is your g4 laptop, powerbook, ibook, it helps everyone if you are more detailed.

    Hey guys,

Won’t option “p” give you a somewhat realtime RAM preview?

thanks bill for the rendering answer.
    i have a G4 powerPC, 1.67 Ghz, 1 Gb DDR SDRAM.
sometimes i edited by having a huge sequence in the source window and cutting from there. (i am making a promotrailer from adocumentary roughcut.) i didn’t always match back to the clip before cutting into my timeline, might this be the problem?
can i use a timeline as a source?
