All NLEs do the same thing, some do specific functions differently. It’s personal preference.

You can get a free version of DaVince Resolve and try it out. I’d recommend that.

Nothing is universally better, nothing is lacking in features, just try them out first hand, go with what you like best personally. Period.

FCP has always been finicky with AVCHD formats. Personally I’d just transcode to H.264 and be done with it. I’d not ever expect much love from FCP for AVC formats ever, IMHO.

If you start with SDR, you only have that information in the file. Converting it to HDR does NOT add image information that doesn’t already exist. You get the same image quality with a larger file size. You must start by shooting HDR first. And there should not be any need to convert it nor to use optimized files.

How does using ONLY MotionVFX templates and plugins, and blocking out all the others who make a living making templates and plugins, do FCP or Apple any good? It limits your options, not expands them.

So officially it was a purchase.

They are only going off of the same post we all see on the MotionVFX site, and ASSUMING it was a buy-out. But no where has anyone CONFIRMED it was an acquisition. Those news sites are just assuming.

1 – MotionVFX’s statement says they “joined” the Apple team. They do not used the terms acquisition or buy-out. Media outlets are using those terms.

2 – Apple itself is not commenting on this at all.

Apple has stopped listing older versions of FCP for older macOS versions. It’s a shame, but they have.

There have been some very minor bugs pointed out on the Apple FCP user forum. But mostly just resetting pref files fixes them. It’s a very safe upgrade for my studio.

Unfortunately, you can’t create keywords from the Project timeline. You can select a clip, Shift+F to highlight the original in the Browser, then keyword there. But that’s an FCP limit Apple has imposed upon us.

May folks mistakenly use a TV as a broadcast monitor. A real broadcast monitor shows the raw image. Copying existing files to ExFat to go to Windows is fine. But don’t use ExFat with a Mac app to to actual work. Especially FCP. Over and over and over we see major issues eventually pop up. Apple doesn’t officially support it, either.

Do you mean for sill images and for audio files? Still images should not be much larger than the frame size of the Project they’re being used in. The exception is if you plan to enlarge them to zoom in on them, then make them a bit larger. For a 1080 timeline, 4K should be fine for a still image. And at 75dpi.

Take this to the DP and ask what his damage is. No professional DP would give you proxies and originals with different timecodes. And was there any realistic need for proxies in the first place? You should have gotten both at the same time, as a professional. It’s not your problem, it’s the DP’s problem to fix.

So you’re taking FCP Libraries to a Windows PC? I don’t think so. And no, there’s no really compatible format to go between Final Cut Pro and a Windows PC.

I know many, many folks who’ve used ExFat and lost work. I highly doubt you’ve done a feature film in FCP with an ExFat drive. It’s super unstable. We’ll just say you’ve been unusually lucky so far. Apple’s own FCP forum is full of nightmares from folks using ExFat. Apple states themselves that it’s not compatible.

Technically FCP can’t write to ExFat. You may have been lucky so far, but your luck has run out. Can’t use ExFat on macOS ESPECIALLY when using FCP. That’s your issue right there.

If the external drive is not APFS that could cause issues.

If your system drive has less than 15% of its total capacity as free space, that could cause issues.

Please verify both. You can select a drive in the Finder, Cmd-i to get the info you need. Let us know.

As for what the future brings, I don’t worry about what doesn’t exist. I’m happy with the status of the apps now, and that’s all that matters. If things change in the future I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it. No use crying over what doesn’t exist.

BMD’s camera works with external drives on iPhones quite well.

I do this often, and I use the Finder’s search function. Very easy.

This is super rare to have a macOS update go wrong. I’d contact Apple support. Maybe run it to a local Apple Store to have them check it out. Could be a hardware issue.

Clayton, there’s zero difference between the subscription and stand-alone versions of the apps. AI features are the same on both. The ONLY difference is in the stand-alone, you have limited access to “premium content” like stock footage, images, music, etc. You have a choice here, and you win either way.

You can go subscription OR stand-alone, you have a CHOICE.

Most folks I know use Apple apps because they are NOT subscriptions or forced bundles. Subscriptions to software is the biggest legal scam in history, period. Apple is now the opposite of what Steve Jobs built. I’ll be moving to Resolve full-time now.

Indoor shots and outdoor shots should sound different. Why do you need them to sound exactly the same? Isolate the voice in both clips, EQ the less clear one.

Mads, I work broadcast, have for over two decades, think I know what I’m talking about. MXF was popular at one time, not so much any more. And no, broadcast is not regional with codecs like you state. It’s pretty standardized across the board now.

Drop your 50fps clip into a 25fps Timeline.

Select the clip in the timeline.

Go to the Retime menu and select “Automatic Speed.”

What this does is uses all original frames so nothing is dropped, nothing is artificially added. It just uses all the original frames and conforms them to the Timeline’s fps setting.
