February 4, 2026 at 8:13 pmCopying existing files to ExFat to go to Windows is fine. But don’t use ExFat with a Mac app to to actual work. Especially FCP. Over and over and over we see major issues eventually pop up. Apple doesn’t officially support it, either.

February 5, 2026 at 3:23 amI’ve had this issue a couple of times on my Mac Studio. I use APFS drives to edit. It was always FCP 11.x. I usually had to delete the file and reimport it to get it to behave reliably. Again this hasn’t happened often at all, so I’m assuming it was an issue during the import of that file. Not sure if it was a FCP 11 thing and if it was, no clue if they fixed it in FCP 12 as Apple usually doesn’t mention everything they fix. They mentioned no fixes with FCP 12.
