January 15, 2026 at 7:03 pmI own every product in the Creator Studio except MainStage. I was concerned that subscription apps would receive updates (probably AI updates) that one-time-purchase apps would not.
That concern was laid to rest in a recent interview in CineD with Bryan O’Neil Hughes from Apple, who stated, “The same features and functionality – Visual Search, Transcript Search, Beat Detection – will be on the one-time purchase version that you have today. It’ll update, and it’ll all just work as you expect it to.”
Whew, for now! This is not to say that Apple will not change its mind later.

January 16, 2026 at 5:30 pmClayton, there’s zero difference between the subscription and stand-alone versions of the apps. AI features are the same on both. The ONLY difference is in the stand-alone, you have limited access to “premium content” like stock footage, images, music, etc. You have a choice here, and you win either way.

January 16, 2026 at 5:31 pmApple reps did an interview to clear up the misinformation.
Here’s clarification from the horse’s own mouth.
And remember, “content” and “features/tools” are not the same thing.
