FCPX 12.3 buggy?
Given the major version upgrade recently, I’m a little surprised coming back to this forum that it’s so quiet – Creative Cow seems to have lost a lot of traffic, which is a shame as it’s always been my go to for all FCPX related.
That aside, I just wanted to comment re new version of FCPX with auto subtitling and auto-masking. I’m wondering if others have come across some weird new bugs or whether it might just be my combo of plug-ins and system.
I’m getting quite common freezes where the timeline either stops playing, or a browser clip continues playing, and J/K/L loses connection control. I find I have to click back and forth, switching browser clip or project and back, and then it’ll sort itself out and start working again OK.
It happens regularly enough to be quite annoying, and doesn’t seem related to any single plug-in or to using any new features – it can happen quite early on in an edit before applying anything.
So I’m asking if anyone else is seeing this issue come up or have any suggestions to troubleshoot.
Also, while on first glance AutoMask is rather impressive, I’ve actually found it ends up looking a bit iPhoney and I’ve had to resort to magnetic masking and analysing in order to get final-edit-usable results. Hopefully it will improve over time, as it has amazing potential.

To be honest, the Apple product forums here on CC have been very slow and quiet since just after FCPX was released. All forums have experienced the same. Apple’s FCP forum is the most active with the most knowledgeable users. I highly recommend going there first. I love CC, but not for Apple products. Apple has lost the high end professional market, it’s a YouTube editor now, hardly any TV station or film studio has it, almost no jobs ask for FCP skills (PPro and Avid are the top needed in job searches), so there you go.

I upgraded to the latest version 10 days ago and actually didn’t realize any new problems with this update. But I haven’t tried these new masking options yet.

As for bugs, yes, there are several bugs in this latest 12.3 version. Standard troubleshooting:
Turn off Background Rendering in Settings.
Delete all Render files by selecting the library, go to File menu, to Delete Generated Library Files, then delete ALL render files.
Quit FCP.
Hold Opt+Cmd while launching FCP and when prompted delete pref/setting files. (perfectly safe, you won’t lose any work).
Then see how things work.
