go to Tools menu > Render Manager… and trash the renders on this sequence/project
or toggle off visibility on your video track then toggle it back on again, that should also cause FCP to lose the renders
see if that helps

it means you can dub from an HDV camera/source, “Print To Video” or similar from an NLE
useful -
ctrl-v is the default for that action … you can remap it to B if you want

sounds like you are having trouble with Expose/Spaces getting in the way of FCP’s function keys causing your application windows to hide, rearrange, disappear off into other “spaces” etc etc
I always recommend FCP users remap Expose/Spaces/Dashboard to less obtrusive keys, as the default settings tend to clash with primary FCP edit keys
you can remap your keys in the OS System Preferences >> Expose & Spaces pane
if necessary, you can also disable “spaces” there too

Check to see if the Shift Fields filter has been applied
DV NTSC is a lower field codec, the XDCAM HD is upper field -
it sounds like you toggled off Downmix in the Audio Mixer window (thats the little bowtie shaped icon above the master fader at right of the Audio Mixer Window)

I’ve found the proxies cut pretty easily in an OfflineRT HD timeline … the only proviso is that you need to batch remove the unwanted extra audio tracks
to deal with the extra unwanted audio tracks you can download the FREE Audio Track Batcher from https://www.davidheidelberger.com/software.html
its an extra step but a quick and simple one … certainly worth looking at if proxy editing is something you could really use.
