its an unknown for the moment Ken … it has been suggested here that this is one of the issues addressed in this update, but even if it has been ‘officially’ fixed, we’ll not know for sure until we try it ourselves. seeing is believing!

Have a quick check back … theres been a topic covering these kind of issues here before.

I think the final result was that you should set iTunes preferences to import audio as AIFF, 48 kHz, 16bit, Stereo.

FCP4.5HD does a very poor job (or at least a very inconsistent job) of handling CD audio tracks when you drag them straight from CD to your Scratch Disk …. it may well be that QT Pro does a better job, and certainly the iTunes import method above provides consistently good audio.

Also the much anticipated FCP5 will likely fix a myriad of issues, it might be that this one is amongst them.

    Cheers

    Hi Anne,

obviously you don’t want to lose all your work. if its not already too late ….
    1. try to do a “Save As” to a different directory (maybe try the root level of your account folder … ~/)
    2. check your system settings, make sure you have set autosave to a directory where you have write permissions
    3. try to export your project / sequence as an XML file (so you can import it later when you’ve fixed the system trouble)

having saved your project in one form or another, then procede to quit FCP and try all that troubleshooting stuff
eg trash the prefs, run fsck, fix permissions, reinstall etc

    hope it helps

    apparently not speculation (??)

in the recent MacWorld SF presentation it was announced that QT7 would support 24 channel audio, although i’ve not seen explicit mention that that would be 24 channel input …

so alright, maybe a little speculation then 🙂

April 11, 2005 at 2:01 pm in reply to: Best way to organize system files

Can I recommend keeping your Autosaves (in fact everything but the project file) on your Media drive(s) and NOT on the same drive as your project file … if your main system goes down and your project file and autosaves go with it then you’ll have to start all over!

If you keep your media, renders, waveforms, thumbnails and autosaves in the single location, then when you come to ‘clean up’ you need only concern yourself with wiping the media location, keeping the project files in case you need to rebuild at some future time.

    hope its helpful
