  • autosave: operation not allowed

    Deal All,
I work on a FCP4.5HD. I was working on a sequence, nothing abnormal. May be one point is that I was working on a sequence of 40 secs that required lots of rendering time (many effects matte, motion etc: about 5 mins of rendering): but this cannot be a factor: I have done that before.
Here ia the problem: instead of autosaving as set every 15 mins, it gives me the message “Autosave: Operation not allowed!”. When I try to Save manually (Command s), I get the message: “Operation not allowed!”. Basically I cannot save anything on my FCP right now.

This a bit disastrous as I could not save that sequence that I was quite happy with.

    Please help out asap.

    Thank you all

    Anne Pascal.

I would 1st trash prefs, verify and repair Perms.
Lastly if that doesnr work, go into your auto save folder and clean it out.
Make sure to leave at least a couple of auto save files in there tho.

what about ilegal characters in your project name.. you know, like forward slash (/) ?

    that’ll cause you problems.

    Hi Anne,

obviously you don’t want to lose all your work. if its not already too late ….
    1. try to do a “Save As” to a different directory (maybe try the root level of your account folder … ~/)
    2. check your system settings, make sure you have set autosave to a directory where you have write permissions
    3. try to export your project / sequence as an XML file (so you can import it later when you’ve fixed the system trouble)

having saved your project in one form or another, then procede to quit FCP and try all that troubleshooting stuff
eg trash the prefs, run fsck, fix permissions, reinstall etc

    hope it helps
    Andy
