Very very cool. I like that the dashboard which I’ve gotten used to in Motion, is going to be more integral in the operation of OS X.

And only a few more days until Apple takes the wraps off their secrets at NAB. Gonna be a good week!

Which means about 107 days until I’m game to install it on any of my work machines!

At what stage will FCP be able to use more than 4GB of RAM with Tiger?
    Only after FCP5, or before?

And at what stage will we be able to harness the rendering & processing power of ‘Core’ technology in FCP?

I guess what I’m really asking, from an FCP perspective – are there practical benefits to upgrading to Tiger before FCP5?

    Thanks,

    Wayne

[Wayne K.] “I guess what I’m really asking, from an FCP perspective – are there practical benefits to upgrading to Tiger before FCP5? “

We’ll really have to wait until after Sunday to see what Apple shows us and how Tiger plays a role in everything. But I’m thinking I’ll upgrade my laptop and one of my non-FCP G4’s to Tiger immediately just to see how it operates, what changes are present in it, etc…. I don’t think Tiger will really affect FCP 4.5 all that much but I’m sure FCP 5 was written especially for Tiger.

It’s always a good idea to upgrade a secondary Mac if you have one to a completely new operating system before you go ahead and put it onto a profit earning FCP system.

from what I’ve heard, FCP 5 will only work in 10.4

If that turns out to be the case, perhaps Tiger will be included as part of the upgrade package.

Highly doubtful, they’ve never bundled an OS with any other software in the past. Not saying that it won’t happen, nothing’s impossible, just very doubtful. At $129 and $199 for a 5 license package, it’s a very cheap investment anyway.

Will there be no benefit to Qtime 7 without FCP5?

[Scenecutter] “Will there be no benefit to Qtime 7 without FCP5?”

Sure there is. Go read up on it at the Apple Site. You’ll be able to perform some functions of FCP right in Quicktime Pro.
