Hi jim,
It would be nice if you could post a screen cap of that icon. It sounds like there may be an odd channel mapping happening with AJA. If you are seeing the waveform, then I would right click on the file, go to modify and look at the audio channel mappings and change everything to mono. What format / sample rate are you using to save from Audition?
In the end, it really sounds like an AJA issue.

Unless you want to look at third party plugs (eg:RE:Vision Reel Smart), AE is the way to go.

Multiple project files is absolutely the way to go, if you’ve ever had a corrupted files, you’ll know what I mean.
That’s unless you have a reliable backup system. I have a backup running every hour that takes in new files, but I still save new projects files daily to stay organized.
I don’t believe it’s duplicating anything, and it should only affect the render files. I usually let things go along and delete previews when I’m done with the project.

Hi John,
At this point Mainconcept’s plugin is the way to go. It’s pretty much up to Sony to create the same Premiere plugin they are currently providing for FCP.
Of course, the FCP solution is free with the Sony software (I don’t think there’s anything for Final Cut X yet?), so if you have access to it, I’d go that route.

It’s not going to help render faster, but again, it can help realtime playback for mixed previews.

Are you exporting to H.264?
You should choose 854×480 square pixels (if this is widescreen). You may also have to crop by a few pixels (usually 8px left and 8px right) in your source panel in the export window.

It will not give you any improved render/export time. In fact, if it’s a software RAID, as many of those built in mother boards, it could cause a slow down.
It could avoid the need for rendering previews if your footage’s bit rate is too high for a single drive, and you have the CPU/GPU to back it up.

Hi Matthew,
Your OS and some apps will be snappier, apps also will be loading faster, often much faster. That’s due to low latency and access times. They consume less power, they are quiet and in theory they are more reliable.
That’s pretty much it for the benefits.
The drawbacks, other than the obvious heavy price hit, would be the limited amount of writes (especially for the cheaper MLC models).
It likely won’t make your encoding faster, that’s a CPU problem.
My advice, not worth it unless you like new toys 🙂

Hi George,
I don’t think the backup situation is any different. I would definitely keep a backup offsite in case of theft/fire. LTO tapes are still a favorite. Once you buy the recorder, tapes are much cheaper, faster and reliable than any mechanical HD or card, although short term hard drive storage works too.
Then an hourly local incremental backup that includes all projects currently being worked on and your media drives.

Well, if Premiere could do everything AE does, we probably wouldn’t need AE 🙂
You certainly can do a dynamic link, but if you start working with text effects in AE, you’ll quickly see why it just wouldn’t be manageable in Premiere.
