    What are the benefits?

    I’m running a Mac-Pro 12-core, 2.93 ghz, 60gb Ram, and nVidia Quadro 4000 on OSX Lion

I have 4 HDD’s on my computer, 1 running all applications (premiere, ae, ps) and the others to write and read files from.

If I were to get a Solid State Drive, what would give me a better performance upgrade (as in encoding videos, opening applications, rendering)

-Replacing my Macintosh HD hard drive with a Solid State Drive

    or

-Replacing one of the HDD’s that I read/write files from with a Solid State Drive

I’m only buying one right now due to budgeting.

Are there any benefits for encoding videos when getting a Solid State Drive?

    Hi Matthew,

Your OS and some apps will be snappier, apps also will be loading faster, often much faster. That’s due to low latency and access times. They consume less power, they are quiet and in theory they are more reliable.

That’s pretty much it for the benefits.

The drawbacks, other than the obvious heavy price hit, would be the limited amount of writes (especially for the cheaper MLC models).

It likely won’t make your encoding faster, that’s a CPU problem.

My advice, not worth it unless you like new toys 🙂
