  • How do I export in full screen without the black bars?

Posted by Kelly Marcelo on February 23, 2012 at 3:33 am

So, I’ve been working on this video, and I want to export it to full screen. The thing is every time I export it, using any setting, the black bars on the left and right always appear. The files are 720 by 480. I’m pretty sure those are also the settings I chose when making the sequence. I have no idea what settings to use to make the bars go away after exporting. Help would b appreciated.

    Hi Kelly,

    Are you exporting to H.264?

You should choose 854×480 square pixels (if this is widescreen). You may also have to crop by a few pixels (usually 8px left and 8px right) in your source panel in the export window.

If you have black bars on the side you crop the top and bottom and v.v.

Getting bars on the side of your image (or pillar boxing) just means that your sequence is not the same aspect ratio as your export settings. Since Premiere has to fit a square into a rectangle you end up with the bars. Check your sequence settings and see what your footage is. You can also right click a clip in the bin and choose Properties to see what you are working with. If it’s standard def like 720 x 480 then you have to choose an export setting that matches that. Hope this helps!
