Are you seeing this on just one monitor, or does it appear regardless of where it is displayed?

There are some colors, given the monitors they play on, that will appear different. This is especially true of blues, reds and purples displayed on “consumer” monitors/TVs.

And yes, if the suit is tweed, and/or with tight patterns, it may very way “change colors” because of way it’s scanned and displayed on a NTSC monitor.

Do other blacks appear this way, or just the suit?

    Good Luck,

    Eeeeks!

You might try a System Reset.

Open your DVX’s LCD screen and on the sub panel, there’s a little button that can only be pushed with a paper clip or similarly-sized object. This button is next to the Audio MON/VAR controls. It’s similar to the manual eject button on DVD/CD drive for a computer.

Push it and see if that is of any help. Failing that, you may have to seek service.

    Good luck,

My “homeowners” policy does not cover damages/injuries to others, it simply covered my camera when I added it.

Now, if you meant the Commercial Policy I referenced, yes, that has (limited) coverage for damages/injuries to others.

Your best bet is to talk to an agent…and not some yahoo you “met” on the internet 🙂

    Cheers,

July 27, 2006 at 7:30 pm in reply to: Timecode jumps in preset – why?

Does the timecode “jump” correspond to the approximate time you don’t have a battery on the camera? You’re sure you’re not in “Free Run” mode?

You internal battery (which stores date/time/TC) information may need a charge. Put AC adaptor on your camera with the battery power off for about 4 hours. See if this helps. This process is described further on page 27 of the manual, though that’s the page number for a 100B. It’s under the Section “Recharging the Built-In Battery”

If this doesn’t work, you might want to check to with your repair shop to see if they had to remove the battery to repair the camera.

This sounds kind of strange, but I’ve found the less they (the broker) knows about “the business”, perhaps the better.

Most agencies have a commercial division, though if you have a homeowners policy, you can probably add the camera to that. Where it gets complicated (in that scenario) is if you’re making money off it, and taking it on the road.

I purchased my commercial policy through the agent I also have my homeowners and auto insurance through. I didn’t really investigate other options.

Bottom line is that I’m comfortable with what I’m getting for what I pay, and in the abscense of a claim, that’s the “peace of mind” insurance buys.

You might want to consider a policy that covers more than just the camera. What if, next time, your camera doesn’t hit a tree, but rather, somebody’s head? or picture window, or…..well, you get the picture (no pun intended).

I personally have created a separate business entity for my “adventures” with the DVX. I carry a comprehensive policy that covers my camera, tripod, light kit, computers and ALL the equipment in my production company. You never know when the basement’s going to flood, literally.

While my livelihood is not based to any large part on my work as an independent producer (I’m a corporate video guy), I do enough work, and generate enough income, and have a large enough investment that it makes sense to pay about $500 per year for a policy that protects me, my gear and most importantly, my personal assets.

Talk to an insurance agent about a commercial policy to see what’s available.

Insurance…’tis better to have and not need, then to need and not have.

July 24, 2006 at 6:15 pm in reply to: Used DVX 100

You’d do well (in a addition to responses here) to search the web for product reviews. The one I read on the AG DVC 15 wasn’t too kind, though it was several years old.

For me, given the choice you outlined and my own experience, I’d go with the DVX 100. If it has been taken care of quite well, it should be a good value for you.

Of course, anything (including a bad thing)is possible.

July 24, 2006 at 6:09 pm in reply to: Is DVX 100 strong enough?

I can’t speak to the other cameras, but I own a 100A and have been very pleased with it. As someone who cut his teeth on Panasonic 1st generation MII product, I swore I’d never own anything from them again. Well, now I do.

You should know the DVX is manufactured by the professional broadcast division of Panasonic. I’ve traveled w/the DVX across country and have shot a majority of my stuff outside. No problems to report.

Is the transport and the inners of the unit small? You bet. Are they prone to unreasonable failure? Define unreasonable.

There are sooooo many variables (original condition, care by previous owners, etc.)it’s difficult to answer.

I will say, having been an avid reader of various forums regarding the DVX, I’ve yet to hear anyone complain about the durability of the DVX.

That’s one of the reasons I bought it.

    Good luck,

    Tim

You can preset whatever timecode you choose if you follow the advise.
