Personally I’d transcode everything to prores 422, even the DVCProHD stuff- yes it’s an ok editing format, but may as well batch transcode overnight everything to minimise rendering etc

Wayne, the latest OS upgrade, Snow Leopard, fully supports Microsoft Exchange and eradicated in most cases the need for Outlook. Entourage is horrible. The main reason still buy it is due to familiarity (a weak excuse imho) and for transferring from old accounts…

Please people stop recommending Outlook for mac…. nothing wrong with it, just dont understand why spend all that money for that programme when these days it gives you no advantages and doubles the price of office. 😀

I dont think autofocus on a DSLR should ever be used in a professional capacity, and on DSLRs i especially dont think it should be a deciding factor about the camera, until they improve on this. People tried to argue this for the new Sony series when it came out, and it turns out theyre not very good either. As for audio monitoring and turing off AGC, get the magic Lantern firmware and itll allow audio monitoring,, AGC control, s=zebra striping, bitrate control and loads of other stuff.

As for the viewfinder thing, you should be investing in a better one for any DSLR to be honest, it helps a lot.

Also did I read right that you’re converting DSLR footage to prores HQ? Stop doing that, it’s a waste of time and hard drive space, use standard prores. I still don’t know of any 10 bit DSLR footage….

Neither and both. H264 and AVCHD are crux codecs for editing and should be transcoded regardless- what I don’t know (someone fill in here) is exactly what log and transfer supports in FCP, but I have a feeling you can easily transcode to Prores from the canon formatted SD cards withthe correct file structure and h264 files, whilst I dont think you can with AVCHDfrom the other one. The 60D shoots better bitrate anyway…

A few points here: Microsoft did not make the outlook files particularly accessible for other programs, so importing everything may be a little tricky, but seeing as you’re on outlook at the moment, if your email account is either imap or exchange then it will sync anyway so no worry. If you have an email which is with your Internet provider then please change to a more sensible one- I spend SO much time telling people this. Go Gmail, it’s easier.

Anyway as for your other things like calendar, I’m not sure how easy this’ll be, and it depends on what versions you have. https://lucaschan.com/weblog/2007/01/30/moving-outlook-calendar-items-to-mac-os-x-ical/ is an idea for what you need to be looking for though.

iCal can also sync with Android.

Basically, Apple have thought of everything, please don’t be one of those users who buys Outlook for Mac because they’re afraid of change; the combo of Mail, iCal and Address Book will take care of you.

Not much difference- obviously it’s going to be a little faster, but I’d HIGHLY doubt the difference would be perceptible. Do you really need a laptop? And i mean actually think about that one, we here SOOO many people who are like “yeah i need the portability blah blah blah” (basically trying to convince themselves, when actually their travel is limited and they just want the coolness of it).
If you’re going to need to take it to other offices/ studios every now and again, I would look at an iMac. For that amount of money you can get a MUCH better computer, the imac having far more processor power and graphics power etc. Just some food for thought…
