Dan, tip for the future, Apple Prores HQ is a waste of space and processor power with HDV. Use standard pro res or even prores LT and it’ll be fine, and save you a LOT of hard drive space as well.

FCP won’t handle PDFs. I’d personally want to transcribe everything into a better graphics editor such as Photoshop and then use that as my subtitles, but only if I had issues such as the ones your describing- it’d be a painstaking process!

What are the specs of the rest of your computer? Are we talking HDV footage? What do you mean my “FCP Codec?”
I’d be surprised if it was the drive speed, I’ve successfully captured onto a 5400rpm external FireWire 400 drive before (although I was concerned so admittedly sat there for 6 hours watching it)- What’s your capture device?

I can’t see the video because I’m on my iPhone but is The sync set to open? Are the in points on each track in the correct, synchronised place? You use about half the amount of cores you have (hyperthreaded included). Your new mac pro has 12 cores, which hyperthread to make 24 virtual cores, so set qmaster to use 12. What you are seeing with more than one movie appearing in the folder is essentially each core separately rendering a part of the movie, and then it pieces it together at the end, so don’t worry about that. The reason it days 32 bit at the top is because all of the final cut studio, compressor and qmaster included, is 32bit. Unfortunately your 64 bit system is of little use with those proapps as yet- which is why there’s a lot of jittering on here about the next revision of the final cut studio hopefully being 64 bit, which especially with these newer hardware systems should improve speed a lot.

Apparently there are issues to do with installing other software as well. Even if the OS works, software components require specific hardware which a hackingosh may not have. You may have issues…

Double click on the sequence in the browser- its the yellow icon with little square things in it.

For video quality the 550D is better, being a much higher bitrate of recording. The Sony has a few features such as continuous auto focus (which isn\’t actually that great apparently) but I\’m an all manual person so if something has the word \”auto\” in it, I dont care. The Sony has a few other gimmicks like GPS I think, but again I don\’t care, gimmicks are… Gimmicks…
The 60D I’m pretty sure you pay a lot more and it’s essentially just a flip screen, no real advantage unless you want to video yourself or something like that lol. The 60D hardware I’m pretty sure is essentially the same…😀

The final cut studio would be a pretty hefty download… it’s about 50GB isn’t it?
