Hindi subtitles issues
Hi all,
Subtitling a film for the film festival in India. Have subtitles in PDF format in devanagri, but when we place them on timeline in FCP 7 symbols get changed to the point of unreadability. Think need to have FCP use Unicode setting for the text but do not know how to go around it. Any ideas/suggestions welcome.

FCP won’t handle PDFs. I’d personally want to transcribe everything into a better graphics editor such as Photoshop and then use that as my subtitles, but only if I had issues such as the ones your describing- it’d be a painstaking process!

Hi Sergey,
You better convert the PDFs (Photoshop) to any BitMap format (PNG, TIFF, TGA,..) with Alpha.

Afaik, FCP is Unicode aware.
(At least it works fine with Subbits over XML to a text generator)Are you sure you have the correct font for the language?

Thank you all for your help. Upon a lot of experiments we figured that the issue was in the encoding of PDF doc from which we copied the text and pasted in FCP. Eventually, we created a google doc, copy/paste Hindi translation into it, then copied from google doc into FCP – worked like a charm.
