I have a 50″ version TH-50BT300. No HD-SDI cards jet only using it via HDMI. In the full scale data preview mode I can’t see all the black and white patches on calibration images. I am using LightSpace CMS anr i1 pro to calibrate, but so far there are coming strage resaults out of claibrations. But I think there is a problem DeckLinks HDMI output, not plasma. How do other use plasma via HDMI on Resolve in full data range or scale video only? Would using LUT box (HDLink or Davio) made any difference converting HDSDI in HDMI.
I am also feeding HDSDI in CRT and LCD displays there is all info in both ranges, scaled legal video and full data.

Pretty much display works and feels very nice. It is great display. 3D is stunning! But nothing calibrated and fully tested jet. I am looking for some help connecting/setting the Plasma and DaVinci. I need full data range for finishing in DCP.
    Cheers!

    Hi,
It is an idea of solving problem when I would finish in digital. But the project is printing back on film stock so it needs to be finished in cinemascope. I did a bit of testing and researcing and I can loose quality in going squere pix and than back in cinemascope.
I am confused isn’t DaVinci used for a lot of big features that are shoot in cinemascope, how the “big guys” are dealing witht this? 🙂

    Cheers,
    Teo

March 12, 2012 at 8:15 pm in reply to: Element Panel is Here! >>> FIRST IMPRESSIONS.

Great thing is the interaction in between the software and hardware. You mentioned about 3D settings, it switches the interface to. What about for an example: You are in curves tab, finishing primary balance than you decide to use power window, (how many, just one?) click on the Tangent for new Serial node+PW and does the interface shifts directly in to the power windows tab? I am not even sure it works like that on Resolve panel? just thinking about what would speed my work from Euphonics panel.

    Cheers

March 8, 2012 at 9:58 pm in reply to: Scopebox 3.0

I am just thinking of an idea. About looping the HDSDI cables out of the DI system, first they go to scopes, than they go to LUB box, than displays… OK if you have a display with built in option of importing a calibration LUT than it is irrelevant, but would sometime in future Scopebox be able to process also LUTs? So you could measure the image without LUT, just pure signal, than apply the LUT only on output that goes out of the video card (ideally separate LUT for each signal, #1 and #2 HDSDI). Than you could get rid of LUT box and get one loop HDSDI less? Whoul it make the difference? Specially in the price LUT box (even HDlink) comparing to Scopebox?

Anyone got this problem solved? I am having the same issues with cinemascope footage and project. The power windows are just not useful without tracking!! I was key framing them last two days… I have a feeling of one button solution in front of my nose? Is it? where? 😉

    CHEERS!!

Hi Juan tnx for fast reply!
I know about new cards, but my MacPro is not quite new (3,1) and I use Quadro FX 4800 for GPU in Resolve. Just asking will there be any difference for this older setup to upgrade? I will but not in the middle of the project if there is no performance difference.
    Cheers,

Is there any difference running 8.2 on 10.6 or 10.7 on a MacPro? There is no “must have” features why I should upgrade in the middle of project, but still if I get some better performance I will. Is Lion any better OS X for Resolve and is there any difference in nVidia drivers running on 10.6 or 10.7? What do you think of my upgrading?

    Cheers!

February 6, 2012 at 5:34 pm in reply to: any Plasma Pro users yet?

No clue about this power issue. You can turn on an option to power of plasma after some time without activity (still image displayed, screen saver on, no signal detected…)

If you put picture mode in dynamic you can see changing brightness and contrast. I use plasma in cinema mode. it is less bright. But still waiting for probe to arrive and measure display properly.

Any ideas on 8bit or 10bit HMDI? how about other series?

    cheers

February 5, 2012 at 4:35 pm in reply to: any Plasma Pro users yet?

I got mine TH-50BT300 2 weeks ago. I looks and works amazing. I am waiting for xrite i1Display Pro to arrive next week to calibrate it with LightSpace CMS.

Plasma is very near Rec709 without any serious calibration. Only some eye matching of WB, brightness, contrast can get you close. Will post some info after I do the calibration next week.

3D is amazing. I have done a stereo cinema ad few months ago and checked it on plasma, and some BluRays. my opinion is that I can see on plasma more accurate 3D (compositing mistakes,…) than in cinema (xpand)

Only thing a bit bad about plasma is the remote, it wants to be pro, and doesn’t have volume buttons assigned. So you need to go in the user shortcuts and spare 2 of 8 user buttons for volume + and –

In plasma there is an option of using full range 0-255 or video 16-236. But I have no idea is the HDMI input 10bit or 8bit? Is the HDMI 4:2:2 or 4:4:4?
I do not have any input card. If the built-in HDMI is 8bit only do I need to buy HD-SDI input card?

Similar plasma review if anyone looking for some more info:
