Our new Tangent Element panel arrived this morning… Several users have called me already for our first impressions, so i decided to post here…

It arrived in a smaller box than i expected, well packed. We unpacked it and connected it up to a 4 port USB hub, downloaded the tiny HUB software from Tangent, which installed in a few seconds. No reboot needed. Started Resolve and the panel was working. No need to read any instructions. it just worked right out of the box.

The new knobs are silky smooth, and have the essential reset buttons built in. The Balls are also really excellent, and one thing i really like is that they are open at the back, meaning any dust which gets in can fall out again.

The displays are bright and clear, and are not affected by polarized glasses, which was a slight irritation on the old Wave panel when working in 3D.

My main interest is the mapping of the 3D stereoscopic controls, which is very good, and when you select 3D on the panel, the Resolve interface jumps to the correct page. Likewise when changing back to primary color, the page changes for you. Great work BM, these little changes save lots of time in the suite. Thank you!

The only suggestion i would offer to anyone getting the Element panel is don’t use the supplied cables, but instead, to buy some short thin USB leads and a small USB hub to locate under the panel, so you have one usb cable going to the panel, instead of 4. The cables we used cost 99pence on ebay. Also, make sure to use a powered hub… There’s a lot of electronics in this panel.

The Element panel is much less deep than the Wave, so i can now have my monitor closer, which i prefer.

Linking the four modules together using magnets is a really sweet idea, and works very well.

Having more buttons means less jumping between menus, with just a simple A and B button on each panel.

Transport controls are much easier to access now, because they are flush with the surface.

It’s more solid on the desk, the old Wave panel slid around a bit.

Overall a fantastic panel, and already my work speed is a lot faster. And it looks really great, very impressive look and feel.

Definitely my favorite purchase this year.

Thanks for sharing Barrie. Just for reference what size is your GUI monitor?

Great thing is the interaction in between the software and hardware. You mentioned about 3D settings, it switches the interface to. What about for an example: You are in curves tab, finishing primary balance than you decide to use power window, (how many, just one?) click on the Tangent for new Serial node+PW and does the interface shifts directly in to the power windows tab? I am not even sure it works like that on Resolve panel? just thinking about what would speed my work from Euphonics panel.

    Cheers

    temptating stuff!

does the panel read out the values? (eg blur)
can you access the different curve settings?

    Hi Teo,

What about for an example: You are in curves tab, finishing primary balance than you decide to use power window, click on the Tangent for new Serial node+PW and does the interface shifts directly in to the power windows tab?

    YES,
the new panel jumps from color to power window on the UI, and then jumps BACK when you move back to color.

Really nice timesaving. Lots of improvements here.
