It sounds as if you didn’t separate fields when you imported the clip.
File>interpret footage>main. Probably upper field first.

… or you could create the usual 2×1 proportioned solid layer for the CC Sphere, then mask off part of the solid to create the partial sphere. You might need to precomp the layer, applying the effect to the precomp but masking within the precomp.

Yes — I do this all the time. Avid houses sometimes want Quicktime moives in the Avid Meridien codec, sometimes in the Animation codec. If they don’t give you a preference, choose the Animation codec. If that’s too big, consider Photo-JPEG codec at 100%. If that’s too big, use Photo-JPEG at 89% or 94% or so.
Sometimes they like Targa sequences, though. But the post house should have a preference.
Don’t use File>export, by the way … use Composition>Make Movie so you can then use the Render Queue.
But you probably knew that … 🙂

You can test this by making multiple renders, recompressing, then placing the original render and the last render into a comp and comparing. You could mask half of one render or you could set the transfer mode of the upper layer to “difference”. In the latter setup, identical pixels would be black, non-identical pixels would show as a colour. The more black, the less degradation.

A backup is good because if the prefs are lost, you’ll lose any render & output module presets that you’ve created. Ugh.
BTW, Adobe doesn’t support our editing the prefs. Just so you know. 🙂

Here’s how I’d do it:
Import the images, then calculate the size of the strip manually. Number of images times width of one image.
Next, create a new comp at that size, and drag all the images into it.
Next, place one image at the far left of the comp, where the left edge of the image is at the left edge of the comp. Its X-position is half the photo’s width.
Next, drag another image to the right edge, where its x-position is comp width minus half the photo’s width.
Next, select all the layers, then using the align & distribute palette, click on the distribute by centers button. Boom.Steve
