Hello,
I do not re-use tapes, but I am shooting HDV and dropouts can be REALLY costly! I re-use tapes that I am sure I will not use again for family holiday tapes, random shooting and such that are in DV format instead of HDV. Interlaced frames are the issue for me, if there is one dropout in HDV I loose half a second. With DV it is not as much of a problem. Another item, give them to the client! That way it saves you storage space and puts storage in there court not you, and also you are not throwing them in the landfill!
Hope this helps!Scott Francis

Hello,
Sony has some plug-in https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/noisereduction) that help with noise reduction as well as hum removal and other sound restoration items. They work really well and allow you to sample the “Noise” and remove just that sound. I use that as well as Waves noise and hum reduction, however those are much more expensive. In any case good luck!

Yeah!
It’s like that in everything I have ever done:1) Music – Jazz is better than rock, classical is supreme, hip hop is noise…blah, blah, blah..
2) Audio editors – Pro-tools is the must, Sonar is 64 bit, Cubase uses 32 bit native recording files…blah blah blah
3) PC-Mac – Mac rules supreme, all others and insolent, PC are so upgradable, Macs never crash or get viruses, PC’s allow you to tweek more….blah, blah, blah
4) Video – You use VEGAS!!!, FCP is all I use, AVID is what studios use, Premiere works with all other Adobe formats soo well…BLAH, Blah, blah!!!I don’t care if you use an 8 core Xeon with 2000000 GB of ram and 50000000 giga flops of HD storage, or a P4 with 512 MB,and 35 Gig HD or even a burnt stick and papyrus… if it sounds great, looks great and people enjoy it..guess what THAT IS THE POINT!!! All else is just semantics!!
Thanks for listening to MY rant!!

I too have been doing this wrong, one would think that once you start a render that there would be no need to allocate RAM for a dynamic ram preview!! It is quite useful to be able to use the dynamic ram preview to watch transitions and such in real time, since Vegas is choppy with their preview when edit HDV (even with an Intel Quad core). I will adjust as well. THANKS!!

February 16, 2010 at 1:11 pm in reply to: How to Configure Computer for Vegas Pro 9.0c?Question with that, are you able to access all those threads in Vegas 9 32bit running on a 64bit system? I have a ton of plugins that only work on the 32bit system, and some have not been updated to work with the 64bit version of Vegas…Thanks!

February 14, 2010 at 9:27 pm in reply to: Volume levels my responsibility or my Narrators? This should be your responsibility, unless the audio he sent you has distortion that was from his end, you should take the lead on this. You can insert a compressor on the track as an effect, to help level out the overall track, as well as reduce the volume with the slider as needed. If you find that certain parts of the narration are too hot or too low you can do one of three things to balance that out:
1) Insert a volume envelope and adjust the volume by inserting points and raising or lowering the bar at the appropriate spots as needed.
2) Split the track at the section that need to be lowered and lower then by grabbing the top of the audio clip and pulling it down (just like you do with opacity levels).
3) Automate the volume levels by turning on automation on the audio track and using the volume slider.Any of these ways will work, I usually use 1 & 2 the most.
Also, it would be a good idea to do this with any music beds you are using as well…
Hope this helps!

I agree with JR, use 60i for capture (I use Sony camcorders and love them), most any changes I do to the video would be in post anyway. 60i is native for HDV and has its good and bad qualities, if you are shooting to miniDV you will have the interlacing due to the format anyhow. If budget is part of the issue, I use a laptops when shooting and have Vegas capture (or another capture software that stays native) the video as well as recording to miniDV for the backup. This allows me avoid overuse on my equipment. I was able to buy older laptops on ebay with firewire ports, (since I have 5 cameras that I use for multicam shoots), and have saved money verses buying a hard drive capture unit that runs in the thousands per camera….hope this helps!

I have had some divx video clips like that, I re-encode it in something like Nero or Tmpeng (I think that is correct) to an AVI or MPEG and work with it like that. Sucks, but that has been my workaround, good luck!

I would warn about using 64bit if you use a lot of other non-sony F/X’s. I upgraded to Vegas 9 64bit and it did not see any of my other plugins, luckily 32bit can run on the same system…..at least that was my case, don’t know if I did something wrong.
