AVI file that will not load video track
Hello,
I just received an AVI video to match an audio track to that was rendered out on either Adobe Premeire or Ulead (it came from a 3rd party) and Vegas will only load the original audio track (that I am to replace), but not the video track.
I have never encountered an AVI that I could not load.
It runs fine in VLC for viewing it, but why won’t it load?
It is 8 minutes long, but only 123 MB. It should be a much larger file, but is not.Also, is there some trick to get a .swf file into Vegas? I have only been able to load 1 .swf file, but all others I have tried, fail.
Any clues here?

I have had some divx video clips like that, I re-encode it in something like Nero or Tmpeng (I think that is correct) to an AVI or MPEG and work with it like that. Sucks, but that has been my workaround, good luck!

I found the answer from another forum member!
And my AVI file loads both tracks now!
Vegas even loaded a .swf 🙂It is a free download.

Actually, that is not the advice I would give others. What you essentially did was take all of the pills in your medicine cabinet in hopes that one of them would cure you, not taking into account that others could have done serious damage.
Installing a “codec pack” is NEVER the answer for video editors unless you are building a home theater PC (then codec packs are a wonderful thing because they play back almost anything).
The correct procedure to fix your problem is to use a tool like GSpot to determine which codec you needed and then acquire that codec from the manufacturer or other “reliable” source and install it. This ensures that you didn’t overlay some expensive high quality codec that your NLE provided with some cheap alternative from a “codec pack”.
I just didn’t want others to read your post and think that it was the correct solution for a video editor. For anyone else just using their PC for fun it’s a fine solution.
