WOW!!! I was a Vegas user from version 4 through 15, and then I left. I use Premiere Pro now, and while it is not all rainbows and unicorns, I have spent FAR less time with crashes than I ever did with Vegas. I use it daily at work and also for my own A/V business. I still keep Vegas 15 around for old projects and a here and there edit, but PP is my daily driver. I run a 12 Core I9 and an NVIDIA 1080 GPU with NVME SSD’s and standard SSD’s as well.

Recently, I edited a 10 camera mulitcam shoot, with audio, and a TON of color correction, over an hour and a half show and it NEVER CRASHED ONCE!!! I had to use proxies when doing the multicam part, but after that, I could edit in 100% full quality at all times.
While I hate PP’s audio, and LOVED my Vegas for many years, and wish I could still use it, I am not going back.

I have had AWESOME results with the Canon Vixia G20-40 series (pro versions are the XA versions). I have had 7 of these cameras and use them in live productions as well as in the studio. You can likely find a G30 on ebay for under a grand. They shoot 1080p at 59.94fps 35mbps.

I just got this one for some other production purposes, and it edits with Vegas pretty well. Not sure if this is above your price point or not.

April 24, 2018 at 10:54 pm in reply to: Should I upgrade from Vegas Pro 14 to Vegas Pro 15?

15 crashes a LOT more than 14 and 14 did more than 13. I am migrating away from Vegas because I need to work and render without crashes and failures.
As a whole 15 is better, as a program that 14. However, it isn’t a killer upgrade.

April 24, 2018 at 10:53 pm in reply to: confused mxf files

MXF files are a bit out of the norm, so WMP doesn’t play them. HOWEVER I use MXF a LOT as my render to format and VLC plays them fine. Are you using the 64 bit version of VLC?
What specs did you render to?

Also, I have found Handbrake doesn’t see both channels of MXF files and only encodes in mono from an MXF.

April 23, 2018 at 11:01 am in reply to: Vegas Pro 15 Constantly Crashing

Same issue here, I was TRYING to edit this past week and it was crashing nearly after every edit I made at one point. Over 40 times in a 3 hour time frame. I have given up, I have been dealing with Vegas progressively getting worse and worse with crashing over the years, and I just can’t take it anymore. I am learning Premiere at my new job, and while I find it better in some places and annoying in others, it at least WORKS!!!! I will be migrating to that… I just can’t waste time with crashes anymore having a FT editing job AND a video business. Time is precious and losing productivity at this rate is unacceptable.

    Good luck…

  • It has HDMI (full sized) and miniDP, which I do not wish to use as that is also an option for Thunderbolt (which I plan to use for an external input card via an Echo Express SE1.

    YES!!!
That was the fix I used. I have had to reset my VST plugin settings numerous times for transport issues to, so this seems to help.

I did get it resolved, but not sure how. I believe I found some resources by Googling….

Sorry I can recall. I THINK I had to adjust some Windows 10 settings

    Good luck!

If THAT is too much math for Vegas to handle, I need to move on to another NLE.
