I’m guessing it’s time to split up your project file. I’ve just finished up a doc that probably had the same if not more hours onboard. Could’ve been a nightmare. But, thankfully, I know one of FCP’s weaknesses is its database.
Do you still have all your stuff, from the very beginning, in one project file?
If so, take out only your main sequence and start a new project. I start this from the very beginning, keeping a separate file for just Log & Capture. Then, I take selects into a new project file to start cutting. Then, when I’ve got multiple cuts, I take the current seq’s into a new project. The thing is, you can really mess things up when you’re trying to open multiple huge seq’s, plus tons of clips and media all in one project. But, FCP does fine when they’re open side by side in separate projects.

[Bob Flood] “I think one of the problems with FCP is that its on a mac, and therefore subject to the oddities inherent in the apple os, hence the need to trash prefs etc i say this cuz i bet restarting fcp varied the circumstances in ways i cannot tell at this time”
Uugh. I’ve trained a few with this attitude, that everything must bend to what *they* see as correct and they’ve jumped into FCP with blinders on and then curse it b/c they don’t have a clue what they’re doing.
Just accept it. You’ll love it. Mac OS is the best, there’s no argument there. FCP is great, despite what some Avid purists will try and tell you (who’ve never even used it).
You really should get a qualified trainer, forget everything you’ve known before and SEE the way FCP works. It’s truly a beautiful piece of software.
You can’t convince me anything else. And, lastly, never EVER have I run into anything like this (and I wouldn’t). I’m too busy editing.

When in doubt, throw in an option or a shift. ;O)

you can reverse match-frame (if I remember correctly) from the Viewer by hitting “f” to match back to the timeline, which is great, btw.
But for the browser, I’d try shift-f to reveal the Master clip?

Where did you get your cable to attach the Keyspan device? The pin configuration has to be correct. I had to have one custom-made, which works fine. Initially, though, I was pointed to a certain cable (by my local Apple dealer) which did *not* work.

No, you can do extended desktop with these new iMac’s.

I think this is a known bug. It’s interesting what John mentions, about 2-pass perhaps assigning too high a bit rate, but my artifacts showed up on frame by frame inspection within Apple’s DVD player and DVDSP. 1-pass fixed it.

Bob, I just starting using the multiclip function and I really like it for our purpose here (cutting a 3-camera documentary that follows around a large crowd of kids).
I had a few angles that didn’t sync up exactly and I’m not sure if this was due to FCP or the camera itself being a few frames out of sync with the rest. But I slipped it into place by control-shift-dragging it into place.
I haven’t been able to get ANY clips to automatically show up in a Sequence, though. I keep getting the same error about media duration or something. Doesn’t seem to matter what clips I use, I *always* get this error. I’d like to find out why, but it’s not a necessity right now. Any ideas?
Did have two clips that should’ve went together into a multiclip, but didn’t. Timecodes matched fine, but FCP didn’t want to sort them together unless I manually highlighted just those two clips and made a multiclip. If they were in a bunch, they got sorted as seperate clips. ???
Did you manage to get yours to work in the end?

Nick, thanks a lot. I wasn’t aware that FCP incremented the Reel #’s. Does it really do this? I’m not at my workstation at the moment, so I can’t see it with my own eyes. I actually ended up going back (early on) and changing the Reel #’s back to normal, b/c there were so many clips being made, it would just confuse things. And it’s not the same as working with TC breaks where the code zeros out.
FCP is doing a pretty good job, though. I can’t see any problems yet and I’ve made some multiclips with the clips which work fine (aside from ‘make multiclip sequence’ errors).
