    Lori…

    THANK-YOU!

Sorry for the all-caps, but I’m very appreciative. I’m going to watch the tutorial and try this. I’ll report back after my next QC.

    Thanks again,

    I think you’re right. I’m guessing there’ll be a Pro version eventually?

You guys are FAST with the responses, BTW!

    Thanks,

Actually, I was going to just post back about that. I just found that on the optional installers. It does work like the old version, but I’m still worried about how long this will be supported with newer codecs, formats, etc.

I’m just hoping Apple will hear my little voice.

    Thanks for adding that, though!

October 21, 2009 at 5:25 am in reply to: HD to SD downconvert – Best Results Inquiry

“AJA Kona products give you the cleanest downconversion. We do this almost daily for broadcast delivery. You have the options of Letterbox, Anamorphic or Center Cut for your downconvert.

Best of all it’s realtime so you simply lay off to SD from your HD timeline. ”

We’re getting the same problems with the Kona 3. Soft picture, not to mention you have to offset the audio by a frame in your timeline (rolls eyes).

We’re mastering HD, monitoring on a TVLogic, downconverting to SD. The SD really looks washed out and soft. Considering other options now.

Thanks, Rafael. The problem occurs when I do exactly that (move my graphics into the 1920 timeline). Final Cut Pro mangles any motion settings, which means every graphic needs to be repositioned. It’s very time-consuming and tedious work.

    Rafael,

I don’t take the graphics into Color. They’re already graded and in Animation format. They’re 1920 x 1080. So I have to go to 1920 and have no choice. The graphics look soft in the 1440 timeline and plus, like you said, I come out of Color at 1920.

Unfortunately, it’s Final Cut Pro wasting my time. I’ll try what you suggest, though.

    Thanks!

[Zane Barker] “I don’t know one professional editor that has even opened Live Type in well over a year, if you want to use the cheesy life fonts then use monition”

So? I don’t personally ever use LiveType, but someone creative can do wonders with an app like this. Just because the results are “cheesy” in your hands, doesn’t mean someone clever can’t spin amazing results.

Sorry, I just don’t respond well to attitudes of superiority.

[jason levy] “I wonder if they finally fixed media manager? I’d buy it just for that and never mind the other stuff.”

I’ve been using MM for years with some pretty complicated timelines and never EVER had a problem. I don’t think Apple can fix user error, which is probably your problem.

[Chris Poisson] “With today’s DVD players, SD discs look just fine, with many of them doing an uprez when playing. So who needs BluRay? I say it’s bunk.”

Huh? You’re joking, right? You really need to check out some well-mastered Blu-Ray on something bigger than a 40″ monitor. Good old SD-DVD just looks so…blech to me now.
