Again, what are the available options for SXS transfer now? Just the Sony USB reader?

Are there any FW800 solutions for reading the SXS cards? Are the USB readers so slow that they’re useless for location transfers?

[David Roth Weiss] “That seems like an awfully big unit for so little drive space.”

The drive is actually a lot smaller than it looks in pictures. It’s got a huge blue light on the front, though. I personally find that kind of stuff a distraction. Maybe you can turn it off.

What flavour of HD are you talking?

  • Shane, I saw that on your blog posting (the Developer posted there) and that was the one I was considering. Going to go buy it now. Can’t go wrong at .99 anyway!

    Thanks a lot.

“Of course Apple selling the ProApps in the future is something that might actually happen. I doubt it will be this year, but it could happen……”

AHH! Don’t say that. My ultimate nightmare is FCP ends up feeling like Avid. Ugh, barf.

Shane, I posted this question on your blog, but I’ll post it here also, in case it might help someone. Regarding the Netmedia TC Calculator…

To get a proper 23.98 NDF to DF conversion with this timecode calculator you should convert 23.98 NDF to the setting called “23.98 DF”?

I *love* that TC calculator. Man, it was the hardest thing to find for a while, unless you wanted to pay a lot. The Netmedia one is awesome! And less than $10 USD.

“I’ll also have to research Media Manager in FCP 6 as I was always wary of FCP 5 Media “Mangler” issues.”

Llewelyn’s advice is excellent. Workflow is everything. As for Media Manager, I’ve been using it ever since it was first introduced and have personally *never* had any problems. Most problems are user error. You can certainly mangle things if you tell it to do all the wrong things. Just take your time and carefully check all your settings. If you have the space, use “copy” instead of deleting the original media. Also, pay attention to things like Nests and Speed FX. I’d take everything out of nests before MM’ing and pre-bake your speed fx.

    Hey Curtis,

Can you provide some details about what kind of footage (SD/HD, format, PAL/NTSC, etc) you’re using and what version FCP, etc?
