  • QuickTime Player 10 warning

For those who haven’t yet upgraded to Snowleopard, here’s a warning (if you use QuickTime Player as much as I do):

QuickTime Player 10 is next to useless now. I’m hoping there’s a Pro version coming along sometime soon. I use QuickTime Player extensively. Some examples include scrubbing through source clips, simple editing, adjusting in/out points and creating new clips, viewing closed captioning on clips from HD Masters, and more. You can’t even use Command-0, Command-1, etc, to resize the window for crying out loud.

Now you’ve got a simple player with an ugly controller glued into the screen over your image. Man, talk about five steps back.

I’m certainly not upgrading any of my Final Cut machines to Snowleopard until I absolutely have to.

You have to install QT7 along with Snow Leopard. It is located in the Snow Leopard install disk or in your Utilities folder.

This is why Quicktime 7.6 is available on the Snow Leopard installer as well. Just install that (in the other installers folder) and you will have all the functionality that you are used to.

Actually, I was going to just post back about that. I just found that on the optional installers. It does work like the old version, but I’m still worried about how long this will be supported with newer codecs, formats, etc.

I’m just hoping Apple will hear my little voice.

    Thanks for adding that, though!

I’m sure QTX will be finished someday. For now, we use QT7.

    I think you’re right. I’m guessing there’ll be a Pro version eventually?

You guys are FAST with the responses, BTW!

    Thanks,

    I have no doubt.

The limitations of QuickTime 10 are VARY widely known. If you had done a web search before you installed snow leopard you would have found a LOT of info about it.

And there really is no reason not to move all your edit stations to 10.6 when you do the install simply check the box that let’s you also install QT7.

There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.
Don’t let technology get in the way of your creativity!
