[Shane Ross] “Broadcasters convert everything they send out over the airwaves as MPEG-2. But very high end MPEG-2.”

In the Uk digital TV is MPEG2 but at very poor bit rates I would never use the bit rates used by SKY or Digital terrestial.. HD transmission is H264 (MPEG4) it looks excellent.

Thanks Noah, I’ve duplicated it on the Varicam.

  • I’ve had the same even on the latest FCP. I took issue with Blackmagic as I thought it was down to their card. They came back and advised it’s an Apple ‘bug’.

I find it worst with drop shadow (soft) on text.

[Chris Baldwin] “HPC2000 – great 2/3″CCD P2 HD camera but it doesn’t do 24/30p or SD, need to invest in about $10,000 of acquisition media and archival solutions.”

I think you’ll find the HPC will shoot All DVCPro formats 25, 50 and 100.

I think you will find that it’s not backwards compatible. You will have to upgrade.

The only software from Panasonic that works on the mac, is the driver for the P2 Card. The Store manager etc only work on PC (XP).

Avid codecs WON”T work with FCP. Download the codecs and export from QuickTime with the Apple uncompressed codec. Then import into FCP. You’ll need a lot of disc space!
