  • Video Processing: Render all YUV material in high precision YUV

This is a question regarding the Sequence Settings > Video Processing options.

On a number of occasions I have enabled this option in the timeline to achieve the highest quality colour corrections. However it seems to give very strange results, exhibiting blocky artefacts in the image, especially in the shadow areas. In addition, when layering video with composite modes I have witnessed extreme colour shifts when rendered, even though it looks fine prior to rendering.

I have tried the exact same operations with the option set to Render in 8-bit YUV with clean and predictable results.

This happens to both DV25 PAL and Uncompressed 10 bit PAL footage in their respective timelines.

Does anyone know why this could be? Is it a bug or is it only supposed to work with certain codec configurations?

    Thanks.

I should add that I’m using FCP 5.0.4

I’ve had the same even on the latest FCP. I took issue with Blackmagic as I thought it was down to their card. They came back and advised it’s an Apple ‘bug’.

I find it worst with drop shadow (soft) on text.
