  • My FCP is opening and forgetting my layout settings. I just saved the project and quit. Then it tells me that it “unexpectedly quit!” I think I’ll revert to version 5, just means I’ll loose all my preferences……aaaaargh.

Many thanks, I’ll be sticking to uncompressed. Just to add, after my first week with DL Extreme it is excellent. I’m just a little slow on FCP, quite a change in thinking from AVID.

I’m not explaining very well. Here’s my set up: I use a DSR 1500 and output 1khz tone at reference -12db. I have two PPM boxes, one monitoring the output from my input devices and the other the output from the decklink. In this direction both PPMs (input and output) read “5”. When I output tone from FCP at -12db both sets of PPMs read “7” and input to the DSR is up around approx -3 or 4db. This is exactly the same set up as my old Avid Meridien which gave me the same readings in either direction.???

    I’m baffled.

Sounds like the deck blanking, I had this on my DSR1500. I adjusted this in the menu and switched off the 16:9 detect on the deck. The flicker is possibly the 16:9 ident on the tape or timecode info.

Sorry I can’t abide PCs. Been a MAC man for nearly 20 years and an AVID user for 10. One of my reasons for changing to FCP is to speed up workflow with DVDSP and Motion / After effects. At present my Avid is on a seperate G4 and exporting over network is slow for encoding etc. AVID are annoying and expensive at the moment, they also don’t have the same features for MAC at this time.

    Thanks for the advice anyway.

Many thanks for your replies. My G5 is PCI-X so no problem there. I tend not to offline often. I will probably eventually change and increase my storage to Medea or similar when I can afford it.
