I have had this problem which I thought was down to my Decklink, but the boys at BMD have tested and say it’s FCP. They have reported to Apple.

I am perhaps misunderstanding the purpose of the this selection in Edit to Tape. I am an Avid editor of some 10 years, when you cut to tape you choose which channels on the time line to output to tape in 2 channels. Is this not what these options are for in FCP? I am editing to a DSR1500, 2 channels.

If he won’t install QT on his PC then try Cleaner, I use it to convert to .WMV for those poor souls with PCs!

Mistake in above: First error message should read “Operation not allowed” and not “General error”.

It’s still 16:9. It only “displays” 4:3 Anamorphic. If you artist takes in to AE then interprets the footage as 16:9 all will be well.

I’ve sorted the edit to tape, it was my mistake trying to do it the AVID way……. DOH! But I am still confused, In easy set up or audi/video settings Blackmagic 10 bit Uncompressed appears in the list. In Sequence settings it does not, only the DV10 and RGB appear. Is the DV10 the same? In the Edit to tape settings there is no DV10 and no (Apple) 10bit???

BMD have tested this and say it is an Apple bug which they have reported.Roddy Jamieson

Can you route the VHS through your main capture deck? Composite in to SDI out. Best way would be to dub onto your main format first.

Thanks for that, it only shows on Photoshop captions when I applied, in this case a ‘cube spin’ effect, it shows as the image compresses. I had a lower third name caption over an after effects animated background with drop shadow and it gave the garbage with no effect applied.
I don’t know if this is a Blackmagic or FCP problem, I guess the boys at BMD are busy with IBC. I’ll wait and see if they can shed some more light on the subject.
